<p>um no. UC does not have affirmative action so being african american does NOT help nor does it harm you.</p>

<p>I would say UC Berkeley is definitely a reach, as 3.85 is below average and 1880 is below average as well.</p>

<p>Same with UCLA, and UCSD is a medium-slight reach b/c 3.85 is average and 1880 is below average.</p>

<p>Raise your SAT score to around 2100 and i'd say you have a shot at UCLA and UC Berk, but you should apply to Davis and SB as those would be good match schools, and Irvine and Santa Cruz are good backups.</p>

<p>to answer your ELC question, it just guarantees you'll get into atleast one UC (but you dont choose which)</p>
