Chance me for the Naval Academy

I go to an Early college (STEM focus) so when I graduate I will have over 52-56 college credits hours completed. I am a rising senior and a white male, want to go into some engineering field (or possibly poli sci or international relations), not sure what yet. And I know I’ve posted most of this before but this time I wanted feedback specifically for the Naval Academy and what I need to improve on.

High School GPA- UW:3.92 W: 4.96
College GPA: 3.96

SAT: 2150, M:670 R:800 W:680
ACT: 32, M:30 E:29 S:33 R: 34

My goal for the sat is over a 2200 and over a 700 on the math section, I’m retaking in October and also considering retaking the ACT in September.

AP’s: (only took a few because my school only offers literally 5 because in our junior and senior years we take all college classes on campus. The school is so small our curriculum is chosen for us and we don’t get to pick any of our classes until senior year, the only choice we have is if we choose to go the biomed track or engineering track, im engineering)
APUSH-4
AP Lang-3
APES- 4
APHG-4
(AP Scholar with Honor)

EC’S:
-vp of NHS (11)
-captain of the quiz bowl team (10,11,12) (Came 4th in the state in a competition)
-team leader for the 2015 rwdc (11,12)(National aeronautical design challenge) team (we won states and are moving on to nationals)
-model congress (10,12)
-nccj (10)
-Varisty track and field (11,12) (Varsity Letter) (Will most likely continue with v cross country and v indoor track in the fall and winter)
-conducting independent research with the assistance of a professor at the college ( going to enter my research into the siemens competition when we are done, or possibly try and get published) (11,12)
-over 100 hours of community service (10,11,12)
-world travel (well rounded and experienced blah blah blah)
-occasional tutoring when I’m needed (11,12)
-will attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar

Random stuff:
-can solve a rubik’s cube sub 30 seconds
-read a lot
-play chess a lot, considered creating a chess club but not enough interest
-try to exercise 3-5 times a week not including track practice
-learning to program
-know how to use autocad as well as manual drafting

Senior Year:
-As part of our schools curriculum in our senior year we are supposed to have internships, so hopefully I will have one at a reputable engineering company
-Also I plan to become president of NHS next year, senior class president, start a debate club with my friend, and am applying to another organization to do more community service
-Plus I expect to have pretty good essays and interviews for schools that want them and probably really good recommendations

I haven’t taken the CFA yet but I will when I go to the Summer Seminar.

CFA Expectations:

Basketball Throw: 80-90ft
Shuttle Run: probably a couple tenths of a second below the average
Pullups- at least 15
Situps- 80 or higher
Pushups- shooting for at the very least 60
Mile: 6 minutes give or take

Also how much does the CFA matter? Obviously it is very important but is your score used as part of the admissions criteria or just a pass fail test? For example if I and another person have similar grades, test scores, and ec’s but he/she has a better CFA score will they take that into consideration and admit them rather than me?

Also as for nominations I have started my applications for them and I believe I might have a connection to help me get one but either way I am not too worried about getting a nomination.

Also if anyone knows the averages for the USNA CFA that would be an amazing help.

gotta love those shameless bumps

As an Admissions Liaison Officer (but not a Blue and Gold officer), I would say your resume looks GREAT. I would be thrilled to have you as one of my candidates. Getting your SATs up would help, but you are already competitive in that area (and with ACTs). The fact that your school doesn’t offer more AP classes is factored into your package by your Blue and Gold Officer. The CFA is important and if you don’t pass, you don’t go. Period. But if you are a beast and max out the sit-ups, pull-ups or other parts of the CFA, then that would be noted as a positive as well. It’s something else your B&G officer can write in your evaluation. One tip is to try and get your package in early for early admit consideration (this helps with the congressional nomination). That means you should work on your getting your letters of recommendation from your teachers this summer and have them upload them to the system. Wouldn’t it be nice to get an offer in October, so that you know where you’ll be going? Also, make sure you are good to go on your CFA before a qualified administer administers that test. If you fail, you’ll only be given one more chance to pass, but your numbers look good. Look up the averages on your candidate booklet that you can download.

Thanks a lot for the advice @DebtFreeCollege , I just took my CFA at the summer seminar and I got

72ft bbal throw (harder than I expected)
8.48 seconds (better than I expected)
16 pullups
76 sit-ups (i really dont know what happened and know for a fact I can do better)
64 pushups
7:18 mile (this one just crushed me, I was tired, but thats still no excuse. It was over a minute longer than my usual mile time, still reeling from that one)

Im pretty sure my scores are passing, but I just wanted to be sure. Part of me wants to retake it again because I know I can and will do much better, but another part of me doesn’t think its really worth it if means i can put my energy elsewhere. And again thank you very much!!

Hey xSucksToSuckx, let’s look at the numbers for Males (Need to fall within 10% of first number), the second number is the max
Basketball: 69 - 102
Pullups: 11 - 18
Shuttle: 8.8 - 7.8
Situps: 80 - 95
Pushups: 60 - 75
Mile: 6:40 - 5:20

Your Basketball throw, shuttle, and sit-ups are right on the mean but your pulls and pushups are above average. Your mile is off by 38 seconds. I think this is really very good for a first attempt, but the real question is whether they will cut you enough slack on the mile to pass you. It looks like by the time you got to the mile, you were wiped out. An average means that there are those who score above and below, but shooting for the mean also means that you’ll pass. Remember you get to only submit two official CFA scores (if you don’t pass the first set that are sent in, then you’ll get a letter telling you that you failed and need to retest, if you don’t pass the second time, you’re done.) You also need to check and see if USNA already turned in the CFA (if you have an open application started.) If they did, then the application will indicated if those scores were “accepted” and have a check mark next to them (which means you passed). If you are in really good shape now and want to get a coach to redo the test for you, then I would make sure he/she does NOT turn in your scores until you talk to your Blue and Gold officer OR you see that the numbers are hitting the mean.

Thanks! Thats a huge help!

Also on the application if there is nothing next to it, so no check mark or anything, does that mean that I failed or have they just not reviewed it yet? Like if it’s a failing score do they put another mark by it?

Have you been assigned a Blue and Gold officer yet (it should be on your USNA portal)? Because they can help you regarding the checkmarks. If there is a check, then the line item is fulfilled (unless a stipulation or condition is listed). For example, you may have turned in the DoDMERB but there might be a waiver you need and that would be stipulated as well. A lack of a check next to your CFA does not mean you have failed it. You would receive a letter (right away) that would tell you that you failed and need to retest. Was your CFA turned in by USNA, @xSucksToSuckx? Also, just a feedback point for you, I don’t know what your email address looks like, but if it’s like your college confidential screen name, I’d change it. You never get a second chance to make a first impression and a more serious email address will go over better with your Blue and Gold officer than a whimsical one.
