Get those SAT scores up and your chances will increase

I think you are underestimating how tough it is to get into a top college.

I would say zero chance at Yale or Stanford, or even USC or Northwestern.

Just about a zero chance at NYU.

The acceptance rates at these schools are very low, even if for someone who is a star.

GW is a maybe.

I would forget about the 5 schools mentioned above, and find more schools in the GW range, such as American, Penn State, Ohio State, University of Delaware, University of Miami. Maybe Michigan. Look at the US News rankings for ideas around the GW range.

You should be OK for Cal State Long Beach, San Diego State, and Northeastern.

USC is incredibly hard to get into nowadays.

Last year, my friend’s son, with a 740 on his SAT in math, coming from a top private San Francisco High School, did not get in. And this year, my brother’s kid, who got into Cornell, did not get into USC.

As for NYU, everyone wants to go there nowadays.

My advice to you, if you want to get into a top school, is to look at midwestern schools and southern schools. Everyone wants to be on the east coast and the west coast.

Consider the following analogy: you are at a bar and there are 5 beautiful blondes at one table, and all the guys are swarming around that table. Now, on the other side of the bar is a table with 5 beautiful brunettes, 95% as good looking, who are NOT being swarmed over by all the guys, and who are likely to be more friendly to you when you hit on them than the blondes would be. The southern and midwestern schools are the brunettes.

Yeah you need to do more research. Stanford and Yale are not in reach (they reject 2350 SATs consistently), neither is Northwestern. You need to retake the SAT to see where you end up with your score, as is you need to re-do your list.
