I have run the Net Price Calculators and have crossed off UMD-College Park and UT Austin. UIUC shows 37k while both Berkeley and UCLA show 32k. USC shows 6.5k and NYU shows somewhere around 33k. I have talked to my guidance counselor and she has told me I can get beyond 27k in loans, as I can apppy for other loans from different places other than subsidized federal loans. Honestly guys, I’m only applying to see if I get in now. I honestly won’t care if I get rejected from all the great aid giving ones, as I’m prepared to go to Rutgers for my Bachelors and do Masters at any other place, such as UIUC or Berkeley or maybe even CMU. FYI, I’m applying for Computer Science, not engineering. Computer Engineering is different than Computer Science. I want to be a programmer.

Rutgers is fine school. New Brunswick is decent. If you have a car in junior or senior year, you’ll find plenty of firms in the surronding area where you could pick up some part-time IT work–make some buck and beef up grad school resume. I’d also check out RIT–colder than the north pole, but solid programs, great aid and nice co-ops. Drexel in Philadelphia has great programs and OK aid. CSU-monteray is great safety and not far from silicon valley, nice small campus and homey feel. NYU Poly is another idea…

OP. are you sure you said you were OOS for UCLA when you ran the NPC? Here is a link to the costs:

Notice the OOS costs. They give little if any need based aid to OOS students. Here is what the web site says about that:

I assume Berkeley will be about the same.

And here is UIUC’s cost – looks like around $44,000/year for OOS. You do have to consider room & board, books, travel, etc. all as part of your cost at these schools. It isn’t just tuition.

Yes; I put residence as New Jersey and also my family income. Parent contributions were less than 1k and they gave me around 23k.
