Chance me for top 20s

I’m currently a rising junior just generally looking at top 20s hoping to go into something bio-related.

Grades:

  • Expecting 3.85/4.62 UW/W GPA by the end of junior year. My school doesn’t rank.
  • 800 Biology SAT
  • Expecting a 750+ on Math II subject test
  • Expecting a 1500+ on the SAT
  • I’ll have taken 5 APs by the end of junior year (most rigorous course load available excluding AP lang; APs only become available junior year unless you skip a course over the summer in which case you can take one sophomore year, which I did) and a total of 8 AP tests (I haven’t received any scores yet)

ECs (probably the worst part):

  • Played soccer on town travel team in 9th grade only, volunteer assistant coach at soccer camp over summer after 9th grade (not pursuing this sport any further). Kind of irrelevant so not sure if I should include this.
  • Regular HOSA member
  • Eagle Scout (a lot of community service hours)
  • Currently the head of marketing at a student-run nonprofit that’s been pretty successful (in my opinion). The cause it champions is related to my major. We are working to get a bill passed by state lawmakers. I’m going to go on a limb here and assume it’ll be passed by the time I apply for college. I’m probably going to write about this for my essay if I don’t have any better EC to write about by the time I apply.
    Future ECs:
  • NHS (our school only lets us join in 11th grade)
  • I’m trying to get a research internship of some sort, either this summer or next summer
  • Planning on publishing an app (related to the nonprofit cause I explained before)
  • My friends and I are planning on founding a tutoring business (although this may not happen).

Demographics:

  • Asian male
  • Competitive school (at least 5-10 get into Ivies every year, I’d estimate), one of the top 5 schools in my state

Based on this info, what would be my chances right now and how can I improve my application? Thanks in advance for your advice.

I forgot one EC although it probably doesn’t make much of a difference. I volunteer at a language class program where kids learn the native language my family speaks. I help teach the kids there.

Your stats are good and your ECs are decent. If you’re interested in the sciences, focus on building your science ECs. Start or join the Biology club. Do the science olympiad. Try doing research with a bio professor at a local university. You want your ECs to show your passion and skill in Biology, or any of the sciences. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

GPA and SAT are good (if you get what you are expecting). I agree your ECs are your weakest part. Here’s a tip for developing great EC’s: CREATE SOMETHING. Thats the key. What’s the best way to instantly get a leadership position? CREATE the leadership position. You’ll want to create something that involves other people though, because a leader without followers isn’t really a leader. Good luck!

I think AOs can spot someone “creating” something for the purposes of college applications from a mile away.
