Reflection

Strengths: stats, courseload, and ECs
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: ECs and diversity
Weaknesses: Ivy League lottery; still don’t know what I wanna study (prob either business, engineering, or both)

I think I’ll be applying to some of the following (still unsure):
Penn RD M&T
Michigan EA Engineering --> Ross Double Major
Stanford ‘Single’ EA
WashU RD
UF (safety)
Duke RD
Cornell RD Engineering (Operations Research)
Harvard RD
GeorgiaTech EA
MIT RD
UCalBerkeley RD
Carnegie Mellon RD

I still haven’t decided whether I wanna study business or engineering, maybe both. I’d like to apply to schools who are good with both. If you guys could rate my chances (1-10 or Safety/Match/Reach) of getting into each of the aforementioned, that’d be greatly appreciated. Any personal comments are accepted and suggestions of other schools is amazing!

If you’re doing EA to some of the schools on your list then you should include MIT as an EA school. Good luck!

@Falcon1 if I EA to Stanford I can only EA to state schools (Michigan and GATech)

You’re a competitive candidate wherever you apply. One small weakness is your CR SAT score. It’d be nice to see that over 700. I second the previous poster’s comment on MIT: If you’re not applying Single Choice Early Action or Early Decision anywhere, you should add Early Action for MIT.

@notjoe I’m still unsure where I’m applying EA but i feel like i don’t see myself at MIT. I feel as if Stanford is right for me. I still need to do a lot of research. I don’t even know if I’m applying to MIT. Thing is, MIT is top 3 in both engineering and business, which I’m pretty confident I wanna study either one. Same with Berekeley and CMU. I would’ve never seen myself going there, but the fact that its so good for those two keeps dragging me closer.

I’m stilll unsure where I’m applying Early, or even where I’m applying. That’s just a basis for the Chance Thread.

Please keep chancing, thanks in advance.

“… i feel like i don’t see myself at MIT…”

That;s fine. If you prefer to apply early to Stanford, and that conflicts with applying early to MIT, then do what you prefer. But do apply to MIT. You have a decent shot at schools at this level

“Other: sexy”
You are a god.

Penn -Reach
Michigan EA Engineering -Reach
Stanford ‘Single’ - Reach
WashU RD - Reach
UF (safety) - Safety
Duke RD- Match
Cornell RD Engineering (Operations Research) - Reach
Harvard RD - Reach
GeorgiaTech EA - Match
MIT RD - Reach
UCalBerkeley RD - Reach
Carnegie Mellon RD - Match

I labelled a bunch as reaches since you are applying extremely competitively and those schools are always a tossup when it comes to admissions.

@notjoe thanks for the advice! I feel compelled to apply to MIT simply because of the STEM presence. Not only is it in the top 7 undergraduate schools, but its top 3 in what i may want to study.

@j4jai127 i thought i needed to add some pizzaz to my resume

Also, thanks for the ratings, Id think its pretty harsh, but who’s to say harsh isn’t good!

@DrDrizzy I agree with some of your ratings  Thanks

@j4jai127 Why do you say Michigan, WashU, Cornell, and UCB are reaches? Just curious, Id say they’re high match…low reach at most.

I’d assume he’s apply EECS if he’s serious about engineering @ UCB. Michigan, Wash U, and Cornell Engineering are extremely competitive, and it’s always a toss up regarding admissions. The OP has a great resume, but there’s always a certain degree of mystique and randomness surrounding admissions at high level programs, especially the engineering department at these schools. I didn’t use highs or lows, so I retrospect I would say Wash U is a high match, Cornell and Michigan are low reaches, and if he’s applying to EECS my reach still stands.

@j4jai127 Im looking into Operations research or business at UCB if that actually makes a difference. I’d say WU and Mich are high matches and Cornell is a low teach, but that’s just me

For UMich, high match for LSA and low reach for CoE.

@j4jai127 - I’m surprised you see Duke as a match. IMHO its definitely a reach. I think its more selective than 3-5 schools you labeled as reaches.

To each their own. I think the OP’s resume is extremely competitive and stands a good chance for admission. That’s just my own view on it, take it with a grain of salt.

^Totally understood and I apologize if my post made you feel singled out or attacked in any way

@baller55 For Ross pre-admission at UMich, it would be a reach simply because of the low admission rate while you are not really standing out from the crowd. For LSA, it would be a high match. CoE would be in between. Some people may just chance with safety/match/reach without high or low divisions.

@billcsho but isn’t the Ross preadmit a completely different app? Like I’d have to already be in engineering before they consider me for Ross preadmit
