Chance me for transferring! ND and BC

Hey, all!

I am currently a freshman at Holy Cross College, and I am extremely interested in transferring to Notre Dame and Boston College.

Because of severe illness and multiple traumatic family events, I did very poorly my junior and senior years, the most crucial time in high school. My ending GPA was a 3.1 and my SAT was 1500. However, I had multiple ECs: retreat leader/speaker, campus ministry leader, Latin club, German club, film club, prayer blanket ministry, a part time job, and volunteer work.

Now, at HC, I have a 4.00. I am retaking the SAT to hopefully bump my score up to 2100. I am the head volunteer at a branch of St. Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Worker Movement. I am also in campus ministry and psychology club, and still working part time. I know that this year I will continue to balance my academics as I do not plan on having any trauma or illness to set me back. I have also developed good relationships with professors (who are also closely affiliated with ND) who would write me recommendation letters.

What are my chances of being accepted as a transfer student for the Fall 2016 term for both schools?

Why do you want to transfer? That is what ND and BC adcoms will want to know. If it is to be in a more prestigious college, that won’t work.

Also, you say you are a freshman at HC. You only started school a week ago. How do you have a 4.0 GPA?

I agree with the above. Assuming that you reach the 2100+ SAT and the 4.0 freshman year along with amazing recommendations from professors, you still need to explain what ND and BC have that Holy Cross doesn’t.

However, I am pretty unqualified to give transfer advice because I have no experience in transferring and don’t know anyone (irl) who has transferred schools. Purely statistically, Notre Dame has around a 20% acceptance rate and Boston College is around 11% for transfers. Those are extremely selective colleges, so every part of your transfer application must be stellar in order to secure a spot on their acceptance list. Best of luck!

Do you mean Holy Cross College in Indiana?
