chance me for Tufts, Georgetown, Duke, Brown, USC, Dartmouth, Penn, Notre Dame,

Background:
I am a Caucasian/Asian (Taiwanese) male. My mom attended Univ. of Virginia and my Dad went to Brown (so am legacy at Brown, if that is considered) and they went to grad school at UCLA.
Included background because I know it is part of common app and sometimes parents education is taken into account.

GPA: 3.98 weighted
Class rank: n/a

ACT: 33 (may retake)
SAT Subject: TBD

GPA Breakdown/Transcript:
Fresh year- 3.66 (cum.)
Soph year - 3.75 (cum.) - one AP Course (AP Euro.)
Junior Year - 3.98 (cum.) - took three AP courses (Bio, Psychology, US Hist,) and got all A’s every trimester
Senior Year upcoming AP Classes: AP Stats, AP Gov., AP Environmental Science)
NOTE I listed my GPA as cumulative weighted GPA as of end of that year

Extracurricular Activities:

  • Varsity Lacrosse - 4 year starter/team captain (would be trying to play/get recruited for college but tore ACL multiple times)
  • President of club that tutors/mentors students at local elem./middle school - involved since freshman year and president as senior (300 hours total)
  • Part of student council - help plan and organize class events
  • President/founder of Future Doctors of America club - talk about different medical professions/what is needed to go to med school, help set up volunteer opportunities at local hospitals, and interview various medical professionals once a month via skype or in person (specialists, surgeons, nurses, etc)
  • Summer after junior year - interned at hospital for total of 6 months (two 3 month rotations/blocks, 96 hours) - worked in ER and X-ray imaging department and gained valuable insight and hands on experience in the medical field
  • AP Scholar with distinction

Essay topic (maybe, not sure yet) -
Talk about how I tore my acl and had knee surgery three times and how I had to overcome that obstacle (ruined chances of playing d1 lacrosse) and how it changed my perspective on a lot of things/ me as a person. Because of my surgeries, I became very interested in possibly pursuing career as orthopedic surgeon or something in medicine. That’s why I created club at school and interned at hospital.

Asian who is a future doctor. Nothing new here. You’d have to get your ACT or SAT up to have a chance at the ivies. All others likely in my opinion.

I think preppedparent is being a little his view of your ACT/SAT. At the end of the day your GPA matters a lot more, but the fact that your weighted GPA is under 4 is underwhelming. If it was unweighted then you’d be set

Tufts,- High Match if you show interest
Georgetown,- Low Reach
Duke, - Reach
Brown,- Reach
USC,- Match/High Match
Dartmouth,- Reach
Penn,- Reach
Notre Dame- Reach
you GPA holds you back

ED to Brown. Legacy+grade inflation = Win-win.

Retake for a higher score, to help offset those B’s.

Course selection is rather light for these tippy-top schools, as in AP Lites (Psych, Econ, Gov, Enviro, Stats). No Calc? What were your AP scores?

Come up with better essay topic. (Your current idea is over-used.)

Nobody can tell you whether or not you will get in because nobody here is admissions officers, so take everything everyone says with a grain of salt. People with 4.0s with 2400 SATs with incredible ECs are rejected in favor of students with 3.8 GPAs and 2200 SATs with ECs on a similar level. The college admissions process is weird. Apply to all the colleges that you want tom regardless of what people on these threads say. Also make sure you have safeties I don’t see any in your list.

i think you have a moderate chance, but you need to be more realistic. notre dame is a good pre-med school and i think it’s within your reach considering your profile. the rest of the schools are unlikely (GPA!), but it’s not necessary to go to an ivy league f you want to become a doctor.

work hard in undergrad, and you will be able to go to a good med school. thats what counts

Is your GPA the cumulative over all 3 years? Or is that just your junior year?
