Chance me for top LACs please - Grinnell, Colgate, Oberlin, Bucknell

So i had not so stellar freshman and sophomore years of high school. Quite terrible to be quite honest.
I am interested in premed or some toe of biological science so if you know which schools are good feeders into medical school, that would be valid information as well.

here is my record (1st semester/2nd semester):

freshman year: (2.7/2.7)
Sophomore year: (2.8,3.0)
Junior Year: (3.3,3.7)
Senior Year: Current: 4.5

Accumulative without senior year: W:3.05 Accumulative with first semester senior year: 3.25

I have not taken easy classes, but i have not taken the most rigorous either (except for math throughout the years), until this year (my senior year). I am taking the hardest courses my school offers: AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Economics, and other required courses. Currently, and unfortunately, my class is very competitive. I am in the top 60% of my class and hopefully will rise to the top 50% after my first semester.
also, i am getting exceptional recommendations from two teachers and the recognized ophthalmologist i work for. Thanks.

My SAT scores are a 1960. CR: 600 M: 700 W: 660

My EC's are exceptional. involved in water polo for the past 3 years. i am heavily involved in community service, and am working two prime jobs. One job is as a paperless document manager for a commercial real estate company, and the other is as an assistant to an ophthalmologist. I work 25 hrs/wk

I am 100% middle eastern and live in California. I go to a top notch private catholic school.

Please chance me for the following schools (which i know i do not have the greatest chance for):

-Oberlin College
-Grinnell College
-Bates College
-Colorado College
-Lafayette College
-Bucknell University
-Colgate University

Any insight will help. I thank you in advance for your assistance, and I promise to chance back.

please chance me i will chance back with an educated response.

I think your SAT scores very impressive and you have some interesting EC’s. However, I’m sure they’ll look at the fact that you held two jobs, wroked 25 hours a week and compare with your gpa and go , “wha–”. Your EC’s aren’t quite as exceptional as you think. Did you hold any leadership positions? Volunteer? Join any clubs?
Polo isn’t year-round is it? Why didn’t you get involved with something else then?

I think the fact that want to go into med, makes it that much worse…but I think you can make atleast one of these schools. Oberlin- in/waitlisted
Grinnel- waitlisted
Bates- in/waitlisted
Colorado College- ?
-Lafayette College- in
-Bucknell University-?
-Colgate University-rejected/waitlisted

I’m not sure whether your private school status will help or hurt you. Being that private school implies a greater access to community service opps, internships, more intensive classes…yada yada

You recommendations seem strong though. Good luck :)

You need safeties. Btw.

thanks for the insight! i do have safeties of course, i was just curious about these schools because they are my top choices. and to answer some things you brought up previously: water polo is in the winter and in the spring (club) and by community service, i meant volunteering, which i do a lot of. Thanks again for the quick chance back.

some of the school i dont know but
Lafayette - match
bates - match

To be honest, Im not too sure regarding these schools, but your GPA seems really low. Is it out of 4.0? a 3.0 is probably out of the top 10% rank right?

Not sure how selective these schools are, but your SAT is also below the “great” status. It is above average, however. Try to get the SAT up since there’s not much you can do about your gpa now, good luck!

OHHHH, so water polo’s one of those intense (there all the time) sports? Gotcha. Make sure to emphasize that in your app…
no prob

Might look at Holy Cross-very good pre-med program. HC has nice location-1 hour from Boston.

alright i will check it out thanks for the recommendation… is there any specific reason that holy cross is good at pre med? like are they a good feeder into medical school or something?

Independent research is always impressive, and working two jobs of that level is incredible for an adult, let alone a student.

Going to a top-notch school helps, especially if you have amazing recs. Have teachers/counselor describe how far you’ve come in four years.

Do you have an explanation for Freshman/Sophomore years? That could help, especially if it got them to see things how you saw them then and now. Glad to see you are taking on the most challenging curriculum. Make sure your school explains this to them.

Why did you choose to build yourself up? Why take on jobs? Why medicine? Make them see why, especially in interviews.

Don’t apply to too many schools. I don’t know how many safeties you have, but still, this year, I’m only applying to 8 total. I applied to 14 last year and between all the work I did for my apps, none of my supplemental essays were too impressive. That was a reason my results last year weren’t what I desired. The stress and time commitment from applying to tons of schools could even make your grades slip.

Apply where you are passionate about. I know it’s hard to feel excited about safeties, but at least find ones you can speak credibly about in essays.

Bates and Lafayette seem possible, either match or WL. If you can improve your SATs or subject tests, do so. A private Kaplan tutor can help, even though they are expensive. They don’t waste your time, and focus with you on your problem areas to help you improve where you need it most. You can do it.

Oberlin will be really tough. I’m sorry. Interview if you can to show personality and apply ED if it is your dream. Prove you already are an Oberlin Man and that they should let you in because you are a good match for them and they are a good match for you. Hope that’s not a clich

Tufts Medical School offers an early acceptance joint BA/MD program offered exclusively to undergraduates at Tufts University, The College of the Holy Cross, Boston College, Brandeis University, and Northeastern.

More responses would definitely help… Thanks!!

I don’t think any of these 7 schools is a match (a likely admit). They are all reaches, because your SAT-CR, GPA, and class rank are in the low range for these schools. Your ECs are good but not exceptional. The trouble is, selective schools have become so much more so in recent years.

However, I think any of them would be worth a shot. They are not impossibly long reaches. Your grades show a strong upward trend, your courses look rigorous, and your work history is impressive. A lot could depend on the essays, LORs, and interviews.

I hate to say this, but honestly I agree that they are all reaches. They are all within your range, and you should apply to at least some of them, but really get some matches and safeties.
Check out like Bard, Trinity or Conn. College, they might be a little more realistic.
