Your background is strong, but the acceptance rate into engineering was about 11% last year, and given recent trends it will probably be lower this year. When the rate gets that low, admission is really hard to predict and appears to take on a random component.

Impossible to know, especially given that you were deferred ED. That suggests they saw something that gave them pause.
(By the way, any idea how you got a 35 on Reading and a 28 on English?)
