Chance me for Tulane please!

Hey, if y’all could take a look at my stats and give me your opinion that’d be wonderful!

I plan to apply EA

I’m currently a high school senior from NC. I attend a small public charter school with a focus on the arts. I focus on Visual arts and plan to have an endorsement from the school by the time I graduate.

Acedemics-
Unweighted Gpa: 3.57
Weighted Gpa:4.28
ACT: 26 ( I retook it but the scores won’t be back until the 14th of November. I’m just hoping it’s much better!)
My school doesn’t record rank because it only has about 55 seniors

Classes-
Freshman year: honors Biology, theatre, Spanish II, Honors English I, Studio art I, Common Core math III, Honors World History
Sophomore year: AP Environmental Science, Studio art II, Civics and economics( its not Honors because it wouldn’t work with my schedule. There was only one pre-calc class running at the same time, that I needed to take) Pre-Calc Honors, Instrumental Music, English II Honors, Spanish III Honors,
Junior year: AP Calculus AB, AP U.S History, Art History, Art Studio III Honors , Chemistry Honors, English III Honors, Health/PE,
Senior year: AP Psychology, AP Statistics, Cognative Development Honors ( my school requires it) Studio Art 4 Honors, Art History Special Topics: American Art Honors, English 4 honors, Visual Arts Special Topics: Portfolio Development Honors

  • my school requires that you take more arts electives than most schools, in order to graduate

Extracurriculars: Student Government( representative 9th-11th grade, then head of community service 12th grade), Cofounder and Vice President of Key Club ( 10th and 11th, held a multitude of events and drives), played the violin since 7th grade, Volunteered at local hospital last summer, volunteered to paint a mural at a local church with a few kids from my school. The mural went in the nursery of kids whose parents were attending GED classes at the church. , Member of Art History Club (11th and 12th), held a part-time job as a hostess for a year and a half, Volunteered watching children at a day camp.

Essays:
I chose the common app prompt asking about an obstacle I’ve faced and what I’ve learned. I wrote about my difficult childhood and how my older sister was addicted to drugs and it caused financial and emotional issues within the family dynamic. My parents are emotionally distant and from around 10 years old I had to basically raise myself and little sister. I talked about my growth as a person and the feeling of responsibility I felt towards my younger sister. My parents have separated Andy I live with my mother who is a waitress. I had to get a job in order to help with bills. My English teacher read it and liked it a lot, but I’m just not sure if I should submit this essay or pick another topic… what to y’all think?

I would want to major in Political Science and eventually get into law school. My dream is to be an environmental lawyer. I wrote about this is the why I want to attend Tulane section. I discussed Tulane’s superior law advising coupled with their focus on community service. It’s just a community I would love to be a part of.

I have two strong letters of recommendation. One of them from my English teacher/ Key Club advisor that highlights my community service.

background on me:
I would be the first person in my family to attend a 4 year university ( idk if this helps but I thought I’d include it)
I am a white female

I know my academic stats are VERY low for Tulane, but it’s my dream school. Do you think I would have any chance at all? Is there something you believe I should do to strengthen my application? Thank you so much for your advice, it means a lot!

Your ACT score of 26 is low but you retook it and I think you will get a higher score. What are your AP scores? It seems that your college essay is well written but it seems that you yourself don’t like it that much. Anyways, please note that there are other colleges and it will all depend on your drive., which you seem to have. Best of luck.

Can you afford Tulane? Tulane does not meet 100% of need.

@Hpoole88
Reach, unfortunately. Lets wait for the new scores.

GPA and extracurriculars are very good. ACT is low: hopefully your November score will be higher, but even if it isn’t you’ve got a lot going for you. The essay topic is fine - just ensure that you write it well. Your English teacher who is also writing your reference can give you tips on the language, sentence construction etc. The points you mentioned can make for a very powerful essay.
Good luck!
