Chance me for U of M- AA? (transferring from CC)

Hello, all. U of M is my dream school and I was hoping someone would chance me for the LSA. You can be as brutally honest as you would like. I would be double majoring in History and POLSCI. Also, make sure to leave any tips that may help

I’m in an early college program so I’m technically a full-time college student in my senior year at high school (I was part-time college my junior year) and will receive my ASA from a CC. (I know, it may be a little early for me to be chanced as I’m not applying until next year)

GPA (UW, my school doesn’t weigh GPA’s): 3.71
SAT: 1290 (670 RW 620 M)
13 Honor’s classes
Applying from In-State

EC’s:
National Honor’s Society
Quiz Bowl- 4 years (One-time captain of JV team, One-time varsity district championship, Placed 19th at the State Championships (we’re heavily favored to win the district this year as well)
Chess Club- 1 Year
As stated earlier- Early College Program (I’m also a mentor for incoming students)
Film Club- 1 Year (Appointed to secretary)
National History Day Project, 9th grade: School Champion, District Qualifier; Doing it again this year
Taught myself a second language (don’t know if that’s an EC or not)

CC (so far):
3.83 GPA (UW again)
Major(s) GPA: 4
Predicting my final GPA to be around 3.9
Predicting my major(s) GPA to be a 4

A few questions:
Would it help me to say that I taught myself quite a lot of U.S History since it’s a big part of both of my majors?
Should I strive for more EC’s at my CC or for a higher GPA?
Does NHS even matter? It feels like most top students are already in it.
Is me getting into UofM unrealistic with my current stats? I’m only hopeful as a friend got in with a low SAT and not a lot of EC’s.

Thank you!

Overall, your data above looks very strong. If you are graduating high school in the spring of 2018, I do not see why you want to be considered a transfer student. Sure, your credits will transfer, but if you’re fresh out of high school, I would apply like the rest.

I had a high school GPA of 3.78 and got a BA in political science. I got my acceptance letter in a matter of weeks. I sweated my application to no end but learned years later everyone with my SAT score got in automatically. That SAT in 1994 was 1200. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply, but I realized that I left something out. I have to finish my ASA at CC by the contract of the program that I’m in. Would I look weaker as a transfer student? TS’s do have a slightly higher acceptance rate.

After thinking about this, you’re probably right. Doing it as a transfer student may confer advantages.

@Michigan98 You are probably an alumni from years ago that did not realize the drastic change in admission rate after joining the CommonApp and also the big changes in the admission process at UMich. It used to be all rolling and now it has EA and then RD with rolling. The admission average GPA has been 3.87 in the last couple years and one big change from your time is that they now include the freshmen grades. Not to mention the SAT score system has gone through multiple changes. Although it is back to a 1600 max scale, the curve is not the same. The mid 50 SAT from the latest admission is 1350-1530. So 1290 is below the 25th percentile. Both the GPA and test score of OP are making the admission chance not optimistic even from in-state. Nevertheless, OP’s college GPA is good and transferring from an in-state CC should have a very good chance.

Thank you for the reply. I had figured that my HS stats weren’t very good for regular decision, so I decided to just give it all at a CC.

Bump.

Your GPA should be fine. You really need to improve your SAT score . You will be considered a new applicant, not a transfer, but the Adcom will consider your CC grades in context.
