Chance me for UC Berkeley

Hey, if you would take the time could you give me your opinion on my chances for UC Berkeley? Before I go into grades and ECs, I feel like it's important to say some stuff about myself personally also. I'm a Jewish, Caucasian male from New Jersey, and most likely won't need financial aid (apparently some colleges like to hear that). Unless I have a change of heart I'm probably going to apply to the College of Letters and Science with a Computer Science major and Economics or Business minor. I'm also still a junior, so I hope to apply in November of this year.

Unweighted GPA (4.0 scale): 3.65
Weighted GPA: 4.15
UC GPA (if I calculated it correctly): 4.05

AP Classes: Physics B (B+), English Language and Composition (A-), and US History (A). Next year I'm taking Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science, English IV, and Economics.

SAT: 2190 (710 Math, 730 CR, 750 Writing) and I'm taking it again in March, hoping to get 2300+

ECs:
Football 4 years -- Already named captain for senior year
Baseball 4 years (11 years total) -- Coach told me I'm going to be captain senior year
Track and Field (shot put) 1 year
Math League -- 2 years
Key Club (community service program) 4 years -- Most likely going to be President senior year
National Honors Society
13 years of piano
5 years of guitar
Organized the school's Intergenerational Prom (for senior citizens)

Job Experience: This summer I'm interning at Luminations Group (a company my mom has been affiliated with but is independent from, so I'm not just "working for mom's company"). I'm going to use my programming knowledge to improve their website, create marketing Powerpoints, and also shadow the CEO occasionally.

I'm taking a computer programming class at NYU since I wasn't able to take Computer Programming this year, and would like to take AP Computer Science senior year.

Awards:
1st team All Division Lineman -- hopefully will get either County or State recognition next year if all goes well
9-time Scholar Athlete Award
County Champions for Baseball 2013 season
Division Champions for Football 2011, 2012, 2013 season -- hopefully will be 2014 as well
Honor Roll every marking period of high school

I don't know if this counts for anything, but the Little League team I played for was one game away from the Little League World Series. We won our district, section, and state, and lost in the finals of the Regional Tournament to NY. Although this was when I was really young it actually made us mature a lot quicker than most 12-years-olds, being away from our family for like a month and basically having to take care of ourselves (it can also show my ambition and dedication).

I also had surgery on both of my hips this past winter. I've spent 3 months on crutches, and am just starting to move off of them now. Since I was out of school for the last half of November and the first half of December (about), my grades faltered a little bit second marking period (ended up with 4 B's in Calculus, Physics, English, and History). But, I can write about that in my personal statement I'm sure.

Lastly, I consider myself a very good writer (12/12 on SAT essay, usually A's in AP English), and I will hopefully write a strong personal statement.

I know this is a lot, but if anyone read all of this I would really appreciate if you would leave your opinion on whether this would be a huge reach, a good fit, whatever you think I am for this school. I just came back from a visit and am absolutely infatuated with the campus and the Bay Area in general.

THANKS!!

I forgot to mention, I’m on the Jewish Sports Review All American football team

Your GPA seems a bit low. Also, improving your SAT will definitely increase your chances, as your score (as of now) is pretty much average for UCB. Other than that, your EC’s are impressive and if your writing ability is as good as you say it is, then you should have a pretty good shot. Luckily, you still have a bit of time to get your GPA up, so take that opportunity!

Good luck!

Yeah, it is a bit low. Unfortunately I spent too much time trying to "be cool’ freshman and sophomore year instead of buckling down and getting good grades. I like to think I’ve matured a bit now and can balance both :-bd

The UCs will eyeball your freshman year but only use grades 10 and 11 to calculate your UC gpa.

WELL… getting your SAT up would be good for BERKELEY because they’re very numbers based. HOWEVER, your SAT is fine for other schools. To be honest, past a certain threshold, schools do not care that much.
