UCD: High Match/Low Reach

Low reach. Your GPA is awful. You should not apply to the UCs. You should apply to schools that care about your ethnicity.

Turns out I calculated my weighted incorrectly, it’s actually a 4.16. Would that make a difference? @Mangiafuoco

No because your unweighted GPA and your capped UC GPA are still too low.

OP, it doesnt hurt to apply since its not totall6 out of reach. Write a good essay and see what happens. Also put UCM/UCR and UCSB if you want those as safeties.

With a UC GPA of 4.16, you are a Match/High Match. Anything over a 4.0+ is competitive. Good Luck.

@Gumbymom
4.16 is OP’s fully weighted GPA. OP’s capped UC GPA is only 3.74.
Also, a 4.16 capped UC GPA would not make UC Davis a high match. It would make UC Davis a low match.

@Mangiafuoco: Then my orginal chance of High Match/Low Reach stands. OP did not specify fully weighted vs UC capped weighted. My mistake.

My mistake @Gumbymom and thanks!

@Mangiafuoco a 4.16 capped UC GPA would not make UC Davis a low match. UC Davis’ average capped UC GPA is a 4.07. 4.16 is closer to that of UCLA (4.17) and UC Berkeley (4.18).

@awesomekid
Are you suggesting that a 4.16 will make UC Davis a safety? Because that is unrealistic. Very few students have the stats necessary to call the mid-tier UCs safeties. Such students are rare even on a site like College Confidential. high reach > reach > low reach > high match > match > low match > safety

@Thatoneguy24 you have a solid chance at UCD don’t worry!

@peterg123 thanks! I’ll try not to lol

@Mangiafuoco My friend got into Duke with a 3.0 GPA. No hooks. This guy’s GPA isn’t bad.

The op has a solid chance at ucd and most of the other mid/low tier schools.

@Mangiafuoco I thought it was high reach > reach > low reach > low match > match > high match > safety?
So someone with a 4.16 UC gpa would be closer to a high match for UCD. For the OP, UCD is a reach because UCs care about GPA soooo much.
