Chance me for UC Irvine? --Please help, urgent responses needed--

Hello! I really am in need of knowing what my chances for getting into UCI are, I’ve been doing extensive research of the alumni they accept, and I’m just not sure exactly how big my chance of getting in is. Any and all chance replies are extremely appreciated, for I am sending in my application soon.

-I’m Asian(if that helps at all).

-Lived in Thailand for my freshmen and sophomore year of high-school (attended a private international school there)

-Roughly 3.822 weighted GPA

-Currently in the top high school in my state, which is known for its strong program, and is now nationally recognized. It’s a dual-credit school, so I am also currently in college, and have over 40 college credits.

Honors:
-National Honors Society Member
-Made the Dean’s List in my college(must earn a 3.9 GPA for one year in order to get on it).
-Phi Theta Kappa member (a nationally recognized college honor society)

ECs:
-I have studied Thai, Chinese, and Spanish. Thai specifically I have studied for 3 years, Chinese 2, and Spanish 1.
-I played varsity basketball and volleyball, of which my team for volleyball placed second in its city tournament, and basketball third.
-I was a percussion member in band, and we went and performed for Webster University in Thailand.
-I have over 50 community service hours(probably will finish with over 100 by the end of senior year).
-I was a delegate of the Model United Nations, and a member of its “Security Council”.
–I was a member of student council in grade 9 and 10. I was elected my grade’s representative for both years.
-I have earned a computer literacy certification (IC3 GS4).
-Won a writing contest in my school(not sure if this helps at all, but can’t hurt to state it).

Other:
-Currently my SAT score(just reading+math) is 1,150 out of the 1600 scale. With the writing section it is 1650. That was my first attempt however, and I am retaking the SAT in November and December, score will most likely increase.

  • I have taken the ACT, however, that test really isn’t suited for me and I prefer the SAT more.
-As for my family’s background, the highest degree my father earned was an Associate’s from San Jose City College, and my mother has only gone as far as to gain her high-school diploma.
-I did take art, history of music, and other courses similar in order to be “well-rounded”.

Also I forgot to state that my intended major is Information Systems. I’ve taken various courses related to both it and business studies, and have earned in A in such classes.

I think it’s definitely a pretty high reach. A lot of times, being a member of a club or a team is not enough. I think you need more leadership positions and continuity within your ECs. Also, the SAT is pretty low. I’d try to get that significantly up, at least above 1850. One interesting part of your identity was living in Thailand and having that international experience. Try to talk about what you learned from living internationally and how that increased your global awareness and perspectives on the world. If you get that SAT up very significantly, you have a shot. Good luck with everything!

UCI is a high reach…

  1. 55k no FA
  2. Low GPA? What’s your UC GPA?
  3. Low SAT
  4. International student

@ILoveCSE I wouldn’t be applying as an International Student, I merely just studied in Thailand for two years. As for my UC GPA, I just calculated it and it’s around 3.6-3.7.

Also, I forgot to mention that I am starting up an Ethnicity Appreciation club, and thus would be president of it.

It could be a reach. You’d need to retake the SAT and go up by by at least 200 points. If your SAT score goes up you would have a much better shot.

UCI would be a Reach since they like those 4.0+ GPA’s. You need to significantly bump up your test scores to make up for the lower than average GPA and even then there is no guarantee.

Good Luck.
