Chance me for UC Davis, Irvine, and Santa Cruz? Will chance back.

Hello! If you chance me for UCD, UCI, and/or UCSC, then I will chance you back if needed!

-I’m Asian(if that helps at all).

-Lived in Thailand for my freshmen and sophomore year of high-school (attended a private international school there)

-Roughly 3.822 weighted GPA

-Currently in the top high school in my state, which is known for its strong program, and is now nationally recognized. It’s a dual-credit school, so I am also currently in college, and have over 40 college credits.

Honors:
-National Honors Society Member
-Made the Dean’s List in my college(must earn a 3.9 GPA for one year in order to get on it).
-Phi Theta Kappa member (a nationally recognized college honor society)

ECs:
-I have studied Thai, Chinese, and Spanish. Thai specifically I have studied for 3 years, Chinese 2, and Spanish 1.
-I played varsity basketball and volleyball, of which my team for volleyball placed second in its city tournament, and basketball third.
-I was the relay runner and long-distance runner in my school’s track and field team.
-I was a percussion member in band, and we went and performed for Webster University in Thailand.
-I have over 50 community service hours(probably will finish with over 100 by the end of senior year).
-I was a delegate of the Model United Nations, and a member of its “Security Council”.
-I was a member of student council in grade 9 and 10. I was elected my grade’s representative for both years.
-I have earned a computer literacy certification (IC3 GS4).
-Won a writing contest in my school(not sure if this helps at all, but can’t hurt to state it).
-Co-founder and president of the Ethnic Club at my school.

Other:
-Currently my SAT score(just reading+math) is 1,150 out of the 1600 scale. With the writing section it is 1650. That was my first attempt; however, and I am retaking the SAT in November and December, my score will most likely increase.

  • I have taken the ACT, however, that test really isn’t suited for me and I prefer the SAT more.
-As for my family’s background, the highest degree my father earned was an Associate’s from San Jose City College, and my mother has only gone as far as to gain her high-school diploma.
-I did take art, history of music, and other courses similar in order to be “well-rounded”.

Also please chance me for UC Merced! I forgot to mention it above.

@collegeseeker79, Can your parents pay the $50k+ it would cost for you to attend school OOS in CA? You’ve had several chance me posts in the last few weeks asking about OOS schools, but you also state that you need financial aid and your parents were both recently unemployed.

Make sure you have reasonable safeties lined up (schools you’re sure to get into with an 1150/1600 SAT, that your family can afford, and that you’d be happy to attend). @mom2collegekids knows a lot about finding affordable options for students. Sometimes, it’s commuting, like my son does. Other times it’s starting at the local cc then transferring to a 4-year school. The important thing is getting the education you want without trying to take on more than your family can afford.

You need to provide your detailed GPAs (UW, UC) to us first!

If I were to attend a UC school, it would most likely be UC Merced since I can get the Western Undergraduate Exchange tuition cut. I wanted to find out what my chances were of getting into the UC schools listed above, out of my own curiosity. I have my safeties set up already, and I understand that I need to look at affordable options. I will message @mom2collegekids if I seek help, thank you!

@uclaparent9 Apologies! MY UW GPA is 3.6(will most likely rise to 3.7 by December)–the reason why my weighted GPA is not as high as others, is due to the fact that no honors classes or ap classes were offered in Thailand during the years I was there(thus, no bonus points). My UC GPA ranges from 3.6-3.7.

UCM: Match
UCSC: High Match
UCD/UCI: Low Reach/Reach

You need to bump up your SAT scores into the 1900+ range for a possible chance at UCI and UCD. Your UC GPA is below the average for all the UC’s except UCM so that will still hurt your chances. UCM is your best bet.

@Gumbymom Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to try to raise up my SAT as much as I can from the first score I got.

I think low-tier UCs are the ones you should target.
