Your ACT and GPA are both on the low side. As of now, UCI and UCD seem like reaches. Im not too familiar with SLO, anyone wanna help here?
Good luck.

I think SLO is more competitive than UCI and on par with UCD. SLO is the most selective CSU there is (besides San Diego State) so if navyFIELD’s ranking is any indication, SLO is a reach. I think you have a fair chance but you never know with UC’s and CSU’s.

Cal Poly SLO is definitely a reach. For applicants to their engineering programs the average GPA of accepted students is 3.8 and the SAT Math+CR score (CSUs do not look at the writing score) is 1380/1600. With your stats the only UCs you are a sure match for are Merced and Riverside. There are some CSUs, such as San Jose State, that have highly regarded engineering and computer science programs. However, the problem with the CSUs is that a number of them, including San Jose State, are impacted which means they give strong priority to applicants from their service areas and out of service area applicants need stellar credentials for a decent chance of acceptance.

Without improvement on the ACT or SAT score, Cal Poly will be a reach.

You have a better shot at UCI, so concentrate on that. If you are very determined to go to there, I encourage you to try again on ACT or SAT. With a very very strong test score, anything is possible.

FYI, for 2010, Cal Poly’s acceptance stats for engineering freshman are: avg. GPA 4.03, avg. ACT 31 or SAT 1372 out of 1600. CP is the third most selective, with 29% overall acceptance rate, public university in CA for 2010 (behind UCB, UCLA).

If you are determined to accomplish this, never give up.
