overall your resume looks great! make sure your essays are outstanding so you can stand out! and don’t forget to mention everything like leadership roles, etc. you have a really good chance but make sure to apply for scholarships because those schools are expensive!

thanks for the input! is there any other specific advice you could give me on what to do now to stack up my resume? I got one last summer

I think you have a great chance at all of those schools. To help your chances, try getting involved in something that is related to the major you will be applying for in college. Do u know what that is yet?

yes biochemistry

You should be fine. Include a few safeties just in case.

Chicago, Duke: High Reaches
UCB and UCLA: Decent chances

what safeties do you recommend? and what about other schools like johns Hopkins, etc?

Unfortunately, I do not think you have a chance at any of these schools.
As a current undergraduate student at one of the above institutions (I won’t say which one for privacy’s sake) and a volunteer in the admissions office, I feel obligated to say that you will have a very difficult time even getting wait listed at the above schools. If you have any aspirations in the medical field (I noticed your major was biochemistry), you should be way more involved than just a hospital volunteer, I myself had a small internship that began my freshman year in high school. I would suggest you apply to less selective schools such as UC Riverside or Cal State institutions.

I lol’d at the user name. Realitycheck101?

I disagree with realitycheck101. I think you still have a shot at some of the schools on your list with good essays and slightly better ECs. And for the suggestion that you need to be more involved in the medical field than simply hospital volunteering, I slightly disagree as well. While I agree that it would be beneficial to have a little more experience, it is not by any means necessary. I applied and got accepted to a bunch of great schools as a biology major with clear pre-med intentions with only hospital volunteering and limited EMT work as medical experience. But I do agree that you need some match/safety schools as well. Btw, if you get into Duke, go there. I’m a little biased though.
