Chance me for UCLA, Cal, Cornell, UMD please!

Sat: 2170 ( CR 780, Math 760, Writing 630), 1540/1600 for Cornell/UMCP

Sat Subject Tests: 790-Math2, 740-Physics,740-USHistory

GPA: UW: 3.71 W: 4.48

School: Large school, through an IB-like program, I took more APs than available every year(e.g. AP Physics B in 10th grade).

APs: Gov(4), Physics B (5), Calc AB (5), Studio Art 2D Design (4), US History(5), World History(5), Comp Sci A (4), AP English Lang(4)

Senior Courseload: AP Physics C, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Statistics, AP English Literature, Comp Sci 3

Extracurriculars: Freelance Graphic Design and Web Development( 5+ years, decorated portfolio), Writing Club President(3 years), Comp Sci Club(3 years), Graphic Design Workshop Club(3 years), School Hacking Team(2 years, 12 competitions, rank ~20 in PicoCTF), NHS, Science Honor Society(2 years), Art Honor Society(2 years)

Volunteering: 200 hours at a Senior home, 50 at a local Chinese Church

Work Experience: Paid internship for web design by large govt. contractor firm, Paid internship for augmented reality glasses development, Paid internship for data systems algorithms(basically doing math on a spreadsheet), Freelance web design and graphics(5 years), Live chat support for web hosting. Did an art “apprenticeship” for 3 years.

Hooks: Grew up on a farm in rural China; raised animals, grew crops, that type of thing. In my school’s equivalent of an IB program, basically extra hard ap classes, colleges receive a letter from the principal about the program. Extremely into art, took 3 years of art classes and have a huge portfolio. New school every year for 5 years, little to no stability.

Ethnicity/Gender/Location: Asian Male, Maryland

Essays: Probably 8/10, feel decently good about them.

Recs: 10/10 from Comp Sci teacher, 9/10 from Physics Teacher

UCLA, Cal, Cornell(reach), Columbia(extreme reach ), are all regular decision.

UMCP-Priority decision, wondering chances of full ride/honor college.

UCLA: High match (can you pay full-freight?)
Berkeley: Reach (can you pay full-freight?)
Cornell: Reach
Columbia: Reach
UMD: Low match/Match

Thanks so much! c:

UCLA would be a perfect match. However UC’s give little to no financial aid to OOS people going there so it might be difficult to pay for. Cornell and Columbia are reaches. UMD is definitely a safety for you, and I think it is very possible that you would receive a full ride or only have to pay a couple thousand dollars a year.

Thanks for the input! Yeah I’m still mulling over the financial aspect of the UC schools, I really hope I get a full ride from UMD or any type of scholarship

UCLA/UCB - low reach
Cornell - reach
Columbia - no chance

Thank you! Yeah Columbia definitely seems to be way out of my reach, but going for that waitlist is enough for me :stuck_out_tongue:
