Chance me for UCLA?

It would be amazing if you guys could tell me what my chances are of getting into UCLA. Some other schools that I am interested in are USC, Pomona College, UCSD, and some lower UCs and other colleges that I don't feel like mentioning.

Anyway, I am a white, middle class female in California.

GPA
UW: 4.0
UC: ~4.7

Rank: 3 out of about 600 (top 1%)

SAT
CR: 630
M: 680
W: 780 (8 essay)

ACT (taken twice)
English (without essay): 35, 31
Math: 35, 36
Reading: 29, 31
Science: 32, 33
Essay: 8, 8
Composite: 33, 33 (34 superscore)

SAT IIs
Chemistry 790 (so close)
Math II 710 (ehhh)
Bio 660 (not planning to send this unless I have to)

APs
Biology 5
Chemistry 5
US History 4
English Language 4
World History 2 (hahaha.. terrible teacher)

ECs
Summer Camp- Counselor in Training 9th and 10th, Paid Counselor 11th and 12th
Sports Medicine Team- 11th and 12th (We treat athletic injuries)
Special Olympics Club- Secretary- 11th and 12th (We fundraise and volunteer for Special Olympics)
School Service Club- 11th and 12th, Recruitment/Interview Committee for 11th
Peer Tutoring- 9th, 11th, 12th
Babysitting- 11th and 12th
Italian Club- 12th, possibly an officer position?

I have some more ECs that I was not very involved in, so I'm just not going to put them here.

I think my biggest concern is my ECs. They're not spectacular or anything, and I didn't really do a lot during 9th and 10th grade, so I'm afraid colleges will think that I was just trying to pad my resume by doing more in 11th and 12th.

You can get into UCLA easily, berkeley too but it would definitely be a challenge. Pomona is pretty iffy. To get in you really to be a fit and have great essays. Unlike ucla they look for a soul not just stats and stuff.

Thank you so much. Yeah I know that Pomona is definitely a reach. UCLA is my top school though so it’s good to know that I can get in.

You are DEFINITELY getting into UCLA. Your stats are near perfect and honestly, UCLA doesn’t place that much of an emphasis on extracurriculars. The UCs are about stats. For Pomona though, you need a brilliant essay and be sure to show your intellectual side through the essays.

bump, anyone else?

thats a great GPA. I like how you avoid throwing yourself into superficial ECs and focus on ones you like. That would be great to talk about in essays. You have a great chance at UCLA, a little less at Berkeley. Focus on what you can do now and don’t fret on past ECs

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1367233-chance-top-20-schools.html

@permissiontowin That is so great to hear; after seeing how many ECs people on this site have, I was worried that I didn’t have enough! Thanks so much for chancing me; I chanced you back :)

bump 10char

bumppppppp

Hello, to start, UCLA is a really good school and kind of tough to get into. Your GPA is really good and highly competitive. Your SAT and your ACT scores are really competitive also giving you a really good chance at this school. Also, your SAT II test isn’t that bad either, so you shouldn’t worry about it too much. You mentioned that you’re worried about your EC’s, and I think they are enough. They’re the right amount, you don’t have to have an endless list full of unnecessary activities just to wow the admission officers.

Overall, I think you have a wonderful chance at UCLA, nothing to worry about. Good Luck.

Thanks for your opinion. I just hope that they don’t think I was resume padding in 11th and 12th :/

bumpbumpbump

bumppppppp

Great academic match for all ucs. Only area of concern are ecs. Pick ones that show your are passionate about one thing, not just random ecs to bump your app appeal.

Nice gpa, ucla fo rsure :)

@letspek I don’t really think my ECs are “random.” I chose most of these ECs because I like helping people, and I think that that’s relevant since I want to go into the medical field. As part of the Sports Medicine Team I am a student athletic trainer, and I am considering becoming an ATC (Certified Athletic Trainer).
Italian Club… Well yes, that one is very random, but it’s not to bump up my app appeal. I have taken 3 years of Italian and will be taking AP Italian this fall, so I think admissions officers will be able to see that I’m interested in Italian.

bump, anyone else?

Oh and if it matters here’s my senior year schedule:
AP Italian
AP Calc AB
AP Government
AP Physics (C I think?)
Advanced Composition (Basically honors level English but it doesn’t count as an honors class -_-)
Intro to Art
Sports Medicine Team

I think you should and your ACT, absolutely. You look excellent in my opinion. UCLA should admit you, but no one can say for sure. Thanks for your thoughts!

Thank you!
