Chance me for UC's and CSU's?

Hello, I’m a current senior applying to colleges. The majority are in state, mostly CSU’s and UC’s. I hope to study engineering, probably electrical. I’m applying to:

-all UC’s except Merced
-SDSU, SFSU, CSULB, CSU fresno &fullerton
-Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Maritime
-USC
-ASU
-Santa Clara
-Purdue
-US Coast Guard Academy

Stats:
GPA (9-11): 3.44/3.69
GPA(10-11): 3.54/3.95
UC GPA(uncapped,10-11): 3.25/3.67
CSU GPA(10-11): 3.71
CSU GPA(9-11): 3.67

*NOTE: In 10th grade I got a B and C in trig. I retook the course online and got 2 A’s, but not every school counts it. I counted it in all the GPA’s except UC GPA’s.

AP’s: taken - World History(3), US History(3), Physics 1(3), Comp Sci(2), Honors Pre-Calc(weighted at my school)
taking - Calc AB, Econ, Gov, Psych, Physics C:M

ACT: 34 composite, 35 superscored. Waiting on october test results

Extracurriculars/leadership: -President of Jewish Club(10-12th)
-President of Muslim Club(10th)
-President of Engineering Club(11th)
-Treasurer of the Theater(10th)
-Speech and Debate Captain for extemp(11-12th)
-150 volunteer hours from childrens summer camp
-16 volunteer hours from elementary school tutoring program
-Internship with state senator
-paid internship with local biotech company (part of LSSI program - prestigious)

Also taking reccomendations for good engineering schools. thanks for the help

You have great test scores and good leadership in your EC’s. UC/CSU GPA is on the low side for many of the UC’s and SLO.

EE at SLO has about a 38% acceptance rate. ACT composite is above the average for the College of Engineering (ACT of 33) but your CP CSU GPA is very low (Average 4.17) so I would say it is a Reach.

For most of the UC’s, your UC GPA will be an issue especially since you are applying for Engineering. High test scores to do not make up for lower grades.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:

UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%

Based on your stats:
SFSU/CSU Fresno: Safety
CSU Fullerton/Long Beach/Cal Poly Pomona: Low Match
Cal Maritime/SDSU/UCR/UCSC: Match
Santa Clara/UCI/UCD/UCSB: Low Reach
SLO/USC/UCSD/UCLA/UCB: Reach

EC’s, essays and LOR’s can make the difference for several of these schools.

Good Luck.

Thanks! You really think its that low for irvine?

You can check the admit rates yourself using this link. I just listed the data in an easier format and UCI is really likes those 4.0+ GPA’s.

The link for admit rate by campus:

This link is for UCI specifically and enrolled student GPA by major. School of Engineering as a whole had an average of 4.04.

Update: I received a 35 on my october ACT. New chances?

Raising your ACT one point will not change much. UCB, UCLA, USC, UCI, UCSB, SLO, and others will still be reaches. GPA matters a lot too; a great ACT won’t make up for it. Can’t speak for these schools, but many schools value how hard you work over 4 years more than how well you do in 4 hours.

SO which schools do you think are matches for engineering?

Match and Safety schools:

SFSU/CSU Fresno
CSU Fullerton/Long Beach/Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Maritime/SDSU/UCR/UCSC

Thank you
