Hi, I really want to go to UGA but I’m not sure if I have a good enough gpa.
GPA: 90 Weighted (According to my school, not sure what it translates to on a regular scale) I took a huge dent after transferring to a tough high school after being homeschooled literally all my life.
SAT: 1500 (superscored)
AP/College classes: Total of 10 APS including AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP Biology, AP Lang, and more
Intend to major in Biology (Premed)
ECs/Clubs:
Created an organization freshman year with my friend (Focus is on making healthcare more accessible) raised over $15000 dollars for a non-profit clinics and held several educational seminars at inner city elementary schools.
County Youth Commission (only 30 kids were selected in the county, second largest county in state. Only rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors were allowed to apply)
ModelUN (2 years, won several best delegate and honorable delegate awards)
Beta Club (4 years)
Vice President of the Data Science Club at my high school (Because I took AP Statistics)
Secretary for Amnesty International for 2 years
Article writer for the odysseyonline
Over 300 hours volunteering at a community clinic and shadowing doctors.
HOSA (2 years)
AP Scholar with distinction
YM (Young Muslims) coordinator for the Georgia chapter. (4 years)
Homeschooled all my life before junior year of high school (Transferred into an infamously difficult high school in Fulton county, probably the hardest school in Georgia)
UPDATE: My gpa is a 3.1-3.2 using UGA’s method but that is not counting my first semester senior year grades. Assuming they incorporate my 1st semester senior year grades, my UGA gpa by the end of this semester should be 3.6-3.7.
Google Georgia’s Common Data Set to find out what they consider most important in assessing applications for admission. Also, does UGA superscore ? What were your actual SAT results per sitting ?
Well, if you don’t get in then I sure won’t. My chance me is a couple below yours, and your ECs and test scores are way better than mine. Good luck friend! I think you’ll be fine!
Thanks I think I’ll definitely get deferred early admissions but possibly in RD.
Ever since Zell Miller created the Hope Scholarship, Georgia high schools have engaged in a lot of grade inflation so your GPA may make admission into UGA difficult.
To which Fulton County high school are you referring as “probably the hardest high school in Georgia” ?
P.S. Georgia’s Common Data Set lists only two elements of one’s application for admission as “Very Important” : Rigor of Coursework & one’s GPA.
Listed as “Important” : Standardized Test Scores.
Based on this, please be sure to apply to several other colleges & universities.
Northview High School, our on level classes are harder than honors at neighboring Fulton schools (like johns creek and chattahoochee). I truly believe we should be ranked #1 in state but GSMST gets that spot only because they’re allowed to choose who they allow admittance and who they kick out.
@ConnorMCgregor your statement is not true. There is a lottery process to determine who attends GSMST. And yes, they introduced an Algebra requirement this year, which makes sense with their curriculum. It is a public school though.
i think you’re okay for EA, bc they do a holistic review now, the only thing that could maybe defer you would be the GPA but thats a longshot
@RussianMom I mean in the sense that they can kick out students who do not maintain certain grades. I know many people who go there and it’s relatively common knowledge that if you’re not up to there set standards, you get kicked out of the school.
@Publisher Northview High
Unfortunately, they will be looking at that GPA for early. But hopefully you should be fine for regular since the rest of your resume looks stellar! Good luck!
