I would say that your a high match, low reach. On initial glance your gpa might be thought of as low but your class rank certainly clears that up. Your test score is a little below average but wont spell the end for your chances. Your ECs while pretty unique (“I dont know anyone who is a breeding stock host”) dont seem to relate to Computer Science. If you can defend them and write passionately about them, I think that it would not be to bad an issue. Write good essays and see if you can tack on some points to that SAT. I think you have a decent shot.

Your GPA does look low for UMich while your test score is below admission average too. Have you ask your GC about the stat of previous students admitted by UMich from your school? Otherwise, I agree that it would be a very high match to low reach. Note that an average instate applicant has around 45% chance to get it making it a high match already.

Your SAT is right around admission which is fine for instate, but your GPA appears a bit low. Is that uwGPA calculated without subgrades?

@billcsho Practically, without subgrades it is a 3.738. I do come from a rather rural high school though if that makes any difference. I think my essays were pretty great and I’ve done tours there to show demonstrated interest.

You sound like an excellent candidate, and forgive me if this sounds out of place, but are you a girl or boy? Reason I ask is the gender gap in CS majors is huge! Only 14% of CS majors are women!! So being a girl helps a lot in this case.

^ It won’t help if applying to LSA as major is not really declared at admission. It would help, however, if applying to CoE. Nevertheless, the advantage is likely offset by the difference in competitiveness between LSA and CoE. So it does not matter at the end.

For OP, uwGPA of 3.738 is near the low end of the mid 50 but not out of the range. After all, GPA would be viewed in the context of your school anyway. Being within the top 8% of your class (although UMich does not consider class rank) suggests the tough grading curve of your school. So that may help.

Thanks so much for the responses!
