Chance me for University of Southern California? :)

Like many of you, I'm super nervous about where I'll be going to so it'd be so amazing if you guys could chance me! I just wanna get some opinions on whether or not I have a good shot at USC.

Asian (Thai) Girl from Los Angeles attending a medium sized low income public high school.

GPA: 3.85 (UW) and 4.17 (W)

Rank: 10/432

ACT: 30 (English 33, Math 26, Reading 33, Science 26)

SAT: 1880 (Reading 650, Writing 650, Math 580) I retook it this month and I'm awaiting my score

I've taken the most challenging courses offered to me, except for science.

AP Classes:
5 AP Psych
4 AP English Lang
4 AP Environmental Science
4 AP World History
4 AP Human Geography
2 AP US History (sadly accurate)
Currently taking English lit, studio art, American government and politics, art history, and statistics.

Honors: AP Scholar

EC: 4 years in journalism, with 2 years as editor-in-chief; 3 years in California Scholarship Federation, with 1 year as president; 3 years in student government, with 3 years as design commissioner; 3 years as a mentor for middle school students (preparing them for high school, teaching them study skills, etc.); 6 years as waitress; 2 years on the junior varsity tennis team (aka it took me two years to figure out that I suck at tennis)

Summer activities: Summer 2012 I spent at Indiana University-Bloomington's High School Journalism Program in the editor-in-chief workshop for about a week. Summer 2013 I spent 4 weeks/150 hours as a teacher's assistance at Wat Thai Buddhist School in North Hollywood (my family's Buddhist)

Essay: I'm writing about how I've been a waitress at my family restaurant since I was 11, and how my family has struggled financially (we were homeless for a while) It's well-written and describes me well, according to the people that have read it.

Legacy: My dad finished his master's in urban planning at USC in 1987.

Career/Major: I'm hoping to become a shirtless men photographer. Just kidding lol I'm applying as undecided because I don't really know what I want to do with my life yet but I'm leaning towards journalism or business.

Other: I've met the admissions officer when he visited my school and I've emailed him, so hopefully he knows my name. I'm also applying to UC Berkeley, Boston College, Boston U, NYU, Syracuse, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, Tufts, and UChicago.

Get that SAT up to 2100+, and try to take SAT IIs if you’re not EA/EDing to the school.

Legacy will help A LOT.
Nail those essays.

Assuming a 2100 SAT, High Match/Low Reach

I think your chances are great - you have above the average GPA of accepted students and in range of ACT score–in fact the average of last year’s class was a 30 composite ACT.

Overall your chances seem good, especially if you’re applying as a journalism major to the Annenberg School. Be sure you really express your love and passion for USC in the supplements and you should be good.

Good luck!
