UPenn/Wharton is my dream school!!!
Any suggestions/comments are very much appreciated!!! What do you think my chances are realistically??? Is there hope?
I am just basing this off of statistics, because I am not a UPenn officer or a college counselor. Logistically, you have a chance. I would say the only thing holding you down, number-wise, is your SAT score. Although that might be low for UPenn, being valedictorian will help you tremendously.
On the holistic aspect, your ECs might be seen as “too broad.” Nothing on your EC list screams Wharton or anything business. I don’t know how you would know that your essay are 10/10… or your recommendations (you’re technically not supposed to read them).
Make sure you do your research on why you want to go to Wharton, because they will ask why you want to go to Penn.
Honestly, you can’t really change anything at this point, so I don’t know why any seniors make these threads. No one on here is going to know if you are getting in. Try your best and your decision will reflect whether you are the best fit for Wharton. Good luck!
thank you for your insight! for essays and recommendations I was just assuming a 10/10 even though they definitely could might as well not be. Anyways, I appreciate your response!
I’d recommend that you give up the idea of a dream school and work to create a solid college list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (find out your parents’ budget and run the net price calculator for each school) and that you would be happy to attend. The people I see who get hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus on one or two hyper-competitive schools and then don’t get in. Assuming no major hook, Wharton is a reach for pretty much everyone, yourself included. Expand your horizons and recognize that there are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life. Good luck.
Heres the thing - I know a lot of people might say that you don’t have a chance, but it’s also going to depend on your financial situation. If you come from a seriously low income background, these accomplishments are incredible. Admissions officers are definitely going to take that into account. On the other hand, if you financial situation isn’t that bad, your ECs don’t stand out so then admission may be an issue. Good luck!
Unless you focused a lot in your supplemental essay about why you want to study business and your business experience, I’d say Wharton might want someone who has more experience in business.
