Chance Me For USC and UCLA

Hi everyone, I'm in my second and last year of community college and entering 2011 winter quarter I have maintained a 3.95 Community College G.P.A.. I have taken almost all of USC and UCLA transfer requirements My high school GPA was about 3.0, and I volunteered about 100 hours over the past three years as youth soccer coach, food bank, organizing wheelchair basketball for handicap players, among many more. My extracurricular activities stretch from school newspaper (for community college), DECA business club, founding a volleyball club (it's not really intellectual i know, but it's something right?) I joined the wheelchair basketball club i helped organize, as well as environmental club and my other various volunteering. I have mainly been a full-time student, hence my lack of free time to do much more extracurricular and volunteering. I want to transfer as a business management or business economics major, my essay is great and I have professor recommendations, all I need is reassurance! Thanks for reading and I look forward to reading your responses!

*Also, I received a 3.7 in a Calculus 2 class and am curious on retaking it (or does it sound absurd?) since I'm more knowledgable in the material now; I'd like thoughts on this as well! Thanks!

If you are talking about TRANSFERRING,
Assuming you complete 100% of all the required courses + your 3.95 GPA + some extra work ==> I would say 90% you will get in!!!

For transferring, high-school record has little to no impact on your chance.

One relevant fact: I have been successfully transferring to UCLA and USC both with a GPA a little bit lower than yours in the science/engineering field.

Again, what major are you applying???

(Why is so many people forget to put down their major when they apply, i can’t emphasize enough that this fact is very important!!!)

Sounds like you have a good shot!

Thanks Hamburglar and kevin101, I feel SO relieved now haha. Also Kevin101, I am majoring in business economics/business administration/economics (depending on school).

Oh man… you are applying for the impacted majors… To get in Biz Econ , it is very unpredictable. I have personally seen 2 friends with 4.0 GPA get rejected from UCLA Biz Econ and the main reason is that they were missing 1-2 required courses.

In the recent years, it has been extremely hard to get into UCLA Biz Econ for transferring students because so many people apply for this major.

According to UCLA profile of Fall 2010 transferring students
For Biz Econ:
1974 students applied
1974 students had average GPA of 3.45

13.58% of the 1974 is accepted
268 of the 1974 get accepted
268 of the 1974 had average GPA 3.94

145 out of the 268 students enrolled in the program
145 out of the 268 had average GPA 3.92

(This topic is for TRANSFERRING students, it does NOT apply to highschool students)
