Personal Statements:

1: (9/10) Humorous essay about my experiences in scouting and the endless struggles and priceless rewards for leading young, immature boys into mature scouts.

2: (8/10) Strong leadership essay about my experiences, however, it is probably pretty typical at all the colleges I'm applying for. May change.

2: (9/10)

Counselors: (9/10)

Thanks for chancing me! I appreciate it if you could tell me any tips or any ideas to help improve my application or something I should do. Criticism is encouraged. I do appreciate kind comments, however, criticism will help me reflect. Thanks!

UCLA does not have an Undergrad Business school so you are considering Economics?

Yes! The colleges that don’t have an undergrad business program I am planning to take economics.

You might want to add WashU Olin as a low reach school. The GPA and standardized tests are within the range of accepted students for WashU.

I love it when somebody writes about Scouting in the Common App essay. My son did the same thing but with a twist. One of the younger Scouts during a campout tried to usurp the Scout leaders and everything became a scene out of ‘Lord of the Flies.’ It must have worked since my son got into WashU ED this year (for Arts and Sciences).

Your academic profiles are roughly the same. You have a higher GPA and he might have slightly higher test scores on the AP/SAT subject scores, so you should be accepted if you do ED. You have the same SAT composite but he took the old one out of 2400. Both of you are Eagle Scouts and I know that at least 2 Eagle Scouts were accepted to WashU.

You’re probably in at USC and NYU BTW. If Penn Wharton that would be a reach for anyone, but your grades and tests scores mean that your app will be considered. Chicago likes the quirky writers as you probably know from hearing about their infamous essay prompts.

Which school do you plan to use your ED? WashU is ED only. Not sure about the others though. Try to visit all the schools this summer to get an overall feel and see which one is the best fit. Good luck!

You have a good shot at all of your schools because most of your ECs are concentrated around your prospective major.

Which of these would be reaches? Matches? Safeties?
Any other college suggestions?

Great to see someone else on here with a scouting background. Though I’m disappointed you didn’t pursue a leadership position in the OA ;).
All these schools you’ve listed are rather selective, however, your stats and ECs are good. Be warned, I may be biased towards scouts lol.
USC- Accept
NYU- Accept
UCLA- Accept/WL (are you in state or OOS? UCs are weird sometimes for OOS students)
UCB- Accept/WL
UPenn- WL
UChicago- WL
Cornell- Accept/WL.

I don’t know much about business schools but of the ones you’ve listed, they are either matches (USC, NYU, UCLA?) or reaches (UCB, UPenn, UChicago, Cornell). So I’d look into adding some safeties, but I doubt you’ll have to fall back on them.

Edit: Maybe think about U of M (ann arbor) or Indiana? Both have great business schools.

Yeah, a little regretful I didn’t decide to take a position in OA! Hm, I’ll look into Indiana and U of M. Thanks a ton for a chancing
