Hey, I'm an international student living in Malta, and I go to one of the top schools in the country. I am currently taking the IB program and I have a predicted mark of 38, and my SAT score is 2050. I took 5 IGCSE tests: Math - B, English - B, IT - C, Science - C and Art - D.

Extracurricular activities
Sailing
Fencing (1st for under 13s in the country/joint 3rd for men's in the country)
Karate
Soccer
Art club
ESU (debating and public speaking)
Young Enterprise (make your own company and compete against other schools)

Recomondations from the head of finical services of Malta. The head of the MFSA and the head of a billion dollar hedge fund. All saying good stuff.

Essay good.

50 hours of community service.

I was thinking of taking AP English and maybe AP studio art. Would they help me as a international student?

I want to do Real Estate
So what are my chances?

What was your junior year finals score?
Did you take your IG’s in 10th? Was that the only exam you took in 10th?

How did you spend your summers in highschool, particularly after sophomore and junior year?

I have a predicted IB score of 38. My school only prepares you for the exam at the end of the course you’re taking. That’s just the way schools work in Europe; you could slack off through out the 2 year IB course and pull your socks up at the last minute and get a decent mark (but you have internal assessments; You could do that with A levels though). I took the IGCSEs at the end of 10th grade. I only took 5 because I thought I was going to go to America, and live with my aunt and finish of high school. My parents are divorced and the last minute my mother said changed her mind. So I didn’t take them seriously. My sophomore summer wasnt exciting, didn’t do anything worth while, I pretty much spent a whole month visiting other schools in the country. My junior summer I got a job with a hedge fund (a hedge fund is a company where people give them money to trade on the stock market) and did a lot of trap shooting (which is also another EC).

I do the IB as well, and a predicted of 38 is greatt, but sadly, colleges in the US don’t really pay much attention to your predicted. they want proper numbers and your IG is gonna set you back HEAVILY. But i think sicne you have a 38, you should get in.

Your SAT score and IB prediction is actually in the extreme higher end of UW Madison. Hopefully the IG’s don’t hurt youu.

Thanks. Would a 4 in AP in English and a 4 in AP art studio help me out?

Yes, most definitely. You need to make the college understand that those IG grades arent an accurate reflection of you. Try doing a more challenging course in the APs too, like calc or phy?

Ok thank you. Last question. Are my ECs a little weak. I live in Malta, which is a little bigger than Madison with 400 thousand people living in it, and there is simply not a lot going on here.

Your EC’s aren’t weak, but they aren’t strong either. They don’t have anything that makes you stand out; that is the problem.
If you had something productive over the summers, that would most definitely help. An internship or summer school or something.
