-School does not rank, but I looked at our school profile for last year's graduating class which gives weighted and unweighted quartile divisions by GPA (upon graduation), and if I were in last year's class, I would barely be in the weighted GPA first quartile right now (unweighted would be just below the first quartile). I don't know if they will look at the school profile or not. This is the thing I'm most worried about.

-White male from Arizona, family makes <60k
-Fairly prestigious college preparatory
-School does not rank, but I'm in the 'Summa Cum Laude' program- the most regarded, most competitive diploma, which is typically a good indicator of being near the top (Usually around 25-30 out of ~230 graduate Summa)
-Prospective major is philosophy/neuroscience

-Founder and president of Philosophy Club
-Vice president of Politics Club
-Diversity/International Club board member; went with the club on a three-day 'cultural exchange' trip to our sister school in Kingston, Ontario, Canada
-"Friends of the Orphans" Club President; went on an 8-day volunteer trip to an orphanage in Mexico in March; went back for another 8 days in July
-Over 100 hours community service

-3 years varsity track for school
-Scholar-Athlete Award
-Club track during the summer and off season (Track Athlete Year Round)
-Qualified for and placed 27th overall in the USATF Junior Olympics National Championship for 110m hurdles (basically nationals for club track) (regionals came before this)
-Very, very good recommendations (from what I can gather)
-Past employment as a lifeguard
-Currently employed in a bookstore

-Perhaps I should mention my thought for why my GPA is relatively low; my freshman and sophomore year, I didn't have the accommodations plan I have now--(extra time on certain tests and quizzes when I need it because of personal reasons)--I was given the accommodation plan at the start of my junior year, and my grades skyrocketed. I'm not sure if I should mention this somewhere in my application or not.

-My progression is something like this:
freshman: 3.43uw, 3.6w
sophomore: 3.43uw, 3.6w
junior: 3.75uw, 4.3w
senior year first quarter should be ~3.7-3.8uw, 4.2-4.3w

Bump, anyone?

id say brown’s a bit of a stretch, but not impossible, you have ridiculous ECs, and you show some damn good leadership-y college-man stuff. the other ones seem easily within the other schools ranges. id suggest reading the book “the gatekeepers”. its all about wesleyan admissions, which is similar to other colleges. actually, i think browns a solid possibillity for you, with all the ECs. chance back por favor http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1219166-chance-cornell-communications-major.html

You’re probably in at all your recruited schools. I don’t know much about the schools on your list besides Amherst and Duke, but your ECs are definitely amazing and your SATs are decent as well. There’s a place you can mention your testing situation on the Common App, I think it’s under “Additional Information”? If you mention it, make sure to word it correctly so that it doesn’t sound like your scores skyrocketed JUST BECAUSE you got extra time, say it so people understand that you were HELD BACK until junior year from getting amazing marks, and then showed your true academic potential after you got special allowance to accommodate for your personal reasons.

Chance me back if you have time? (: My ECs are nowhere as amazing as yours ):

If you’re recruited your in. There is no question you can meet the academic standards of any of those schools. Just wondering why only some schools are recruiting you and others aren’t. Good luck!

Thanks guys! But how detrimental do you think my relatively low GPA and unofficial class rank will be? That’s definitely my weak point.
Nutellagirl- do you have a link for your chance thread?

I was recruited at Vassar, Amherst, Bowdoin, and Oxy because I connected with the coaches. As for all the others, I’m just not D1 material.

Might look at Holy Cross(1 hour from Boston) and Bucknell. HC has great combination of academics and athletics in the Patriot League.

Thanks for the suggestions but I don’t think I’d hold up that well at a religious school or a school with big Greek life

“But how detrimental do you think my relatively low GPA and unofficial class rank will be? That’s definitely my weak point.”

Don’t worry about that. If the coach wants you, the question for admissions is whether you met the universities minimum entrance requirements. Your academic stats seem greater than that.
