Chance me for Virginia Tech, Rice, Carnegie Mellon, UCSD and UCB? :)

Hi guys!
I’m a white female, in-state for Virginia, and I want to go into engineering. I know the engineering programs at these schools are hecka competitive, which is why I’m making this post–so I can see where I stand, and adjust my list accordingly.

Stats:
ACT: 36C (didn’t take the SAT)

SATIIs: 800 math II, 790 physics

GPA: 3.99ishUW/4.5W

Rigor: 10 APs+9DEs. I’m ahead in math (taking multivariable calculus and matrix algebra this year) so maybe that’ll help me out a bit

My stats are pretty good, but I have 0 hooks :frowning: which I think will be my weakest point

ECs: solid, in my opinion. I do varsity sports/music/leadership things/community service, but no super special cancer curing or anything. I also like to build things, which isn’t really an organized EC. All in all, about 30hrs per week of EC stuff.

Schools:

VT (General Engineering)
Rice (Mechanical Engineering)
Carnegie Mellon (Mechanical Engineering)
UC San Diego (Mechanical Engineering)
UC Berkeley (Mechanical Engineering) <–this one’s insanely hard to get into, I’ve heard :frowning:

Thanks a bunch!

Could you elaborate more on ec’s cause with just test score and gpa you can’t really extrapolate much. VT and San Diego u should be in.
Also chance me?

UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
UCSD will use Capped/Weighted UC GPA and UCB will also consider your Fully Weighted UC GPA. You have excellent test scores and course rigor. Based on your posted stats you look competitive for both schools, but UCB is always a tough admit.

Are UCSD and UCB affordable with little to no financial aid since you are an OOS applicant? You could be eligible for a Regents scholarship, but the awards hardly make a dent in the $55K+/year costs ($2500/year for UCB and $2000/year for UCSD).

What are your religion and sexual identity? They matter a lot at the UC schools and that could be your hook. You can just lie if you think it helps…my friend did that on his app and got into Stanford.

@miniducks: Religion and sexual identity are not “hooks” are not considered by the UC’s along with race/ethnicity. Not sure where you got this misinformation and telling applicants to lie, absolutely wonderful advice (sarcasm…)

Please tell me you were joking, @miniducks

What kind of person tells someone to lie on their applications @miniducks?
OP don’t listen to uniformed people who will only cause problems.

If you have the dollars to attend the UC’s you probably will get into San Diego. UCB will be a reach.
Remember that OOS students don’t get any funding from UC publics.

@Gumbymom @nyanpasu_ @“aunt bea” I was joking and I know the OP and was just trying to mess with her
