WORTH NOTE
2 years ahead in math, 1 year ahead in science.
Bilingual

Also, would you recommend I retake the SAT?

Boston College: match
U Chicago: reach, unless your essay is on fire
Wash U St. Louis: reach
Claremont: if you mean Claremont McKenna, I’d say high match. If you mean all Claremont schools, Pomona’s a reach
UC Berkley: reach
Brown: reach, but that’s hardly news
University of Washington: low match

I would wait to see how you do on the ACT, assuming you took it with the writing portion. If you didn’t, you’ll probably want to retake the SAT, particularly because your PSAT predicted a higher score and you can always superscore. Borrow a review book from a friend/the library and read the tips on essay writing. This bumped my essay score from a 9 to a 12.

Thanks. That’s kind of what I expected actually. I’ve seen superscore used a few times, what does that mean?

You know how you get separate scores for Critical Reading, Math, and Writing? If you superscore, you can take your best of each of these sections from across all test dates and create a hybrid total score.

Ohhh I get it, thanks. Some colleges make it so you can only send the whole thing though right?

I believe so? Or maybe it’s that some schools make you send ALL your test scores.

Alright thanks for your help.

Bump. I don’t really know why I put in Berkeley, it’s not one of my schools I’m super interested in actually, UPenn would be something more I’d like.

Here’s an update: I got a 34 composite on the ACT, and my updated college list is: Boston C
Claremont McKenna C
Cornell U
Northwestern U IL
Rice U
U Chicago
U Pennsylvania
U Washington
Washington U St. L.
And Western Washington (even though that’s guaranteed in for sure)

W.Washington - Big Safety/Guaranteed
UWashington - Safety

BC - Match
Wash U - High Match/Low Reach
Rice - High Match/Low Reach

Penn - Reach
Cornell - Reach
CMC - Reach
Chicago - Reach

Every school after your in-states becomes some amount of a reach, not because of your statistics but because you have a list of some of the most selective schools possible. WashU & Rice are in the low 20% range and Penn, Cornell, CMC and Chicago (thanks to a 40%+ increase in apps) have admit rates in the high-teens - you could be rejected from those schools not because you don’t qualify but because the competition is so huge.

My guess is you’ll get into the 4 of the first 5 on my list and half of the remaining 4.

Thanks Vinceh.

i agree with peggysue. You have strong extra curriculars and a strong two part SAT. You seem focused in high school and your class load is strong. Your gpa isn’t the highest for these schools but is definitely strong. Being bilingual is also helpful. With strong essays you could gain acceptance to these schools. Brown, UCBerkely, and UChicago are reaches, and Pomona if that’s what you mean for Claremont. I also like your school choices!

Chance me?

I would use your ACT score since the equivalent is higher than your current SAT score. I would tell you that Wash U StL and Rice are both “Ivy-equivalent” schools. They are reaches for practically everyone, yourself included. I still think you have a shot though, at both these schools. Show some “demonstrated interest” by visiting them or going to a college fair. They are both great schools but will most likely want you to show them some love if you want a fair shot.

Thanks, here’s my basically set list now: Boston College EA, then Carleton, Claremont Mckenna, Swarthmore, U Penn, Swarthmore, U Washington, and Western Washington
