Hi, i'm a senior considering Vassar or Wesleyan for EDII. I'm interested in studying Eastern Religions and taking Mandarin and Sanskrit as foreign languages. Thing is, I don't think I can get into either RD, which is why I feel the need for EDII.

My stats:

GPA: 3.8 Weighted, 3.25 UW (lots of B's.)

Class rank: top 16%

School Profile: Top public school in rhode island, silver medal in USNEWS&REPORT

SAT CR:800 M:680 W:650

Lit:710 Math1:710 USHist:740

AP's: UShist, 5.

AP's senior year: Literature, Microecon, Biology
(lot's of B's this year too.)

SOLID EC's.

Yourspace: Essay on how juggling is a therapy

I just want to make sure that before I apply ED, their Asian Studies and Religion program is good enough to get me into a grad school with an amazing Asian Studies/Sanskrit program (Like Brown, Harvard)

i already applied to Wes RD and had a good interview, but i’m thinking about calling them and switching to ED. Also, I made a grammar error in the Common APP’s short description about one of your EC’s. (I said “I always became a workshop presenter,” when I should have said “I also became…”

I say that Wesleyan might be a little easier to get into than Vassar but you have a good shot at getting into both considering your academics aren’t bad at all.

your gpa is really 3.25, no college is going to take ur gpa 6 points higher even if u did take rigorous courses. your sats are really solid but i dont think u would get in RD but try ED see wgat happens!

I’m going to be a little less optimistic than others: Your interesting academic interest should help, and your SAT scores are fine, but you unweighed GPA is rather low for these schools, though the fact that you go to a good school will help. You definitely have a shot at either school, but you’re not an automatic in, even ED. What’s your gender? Guys tend to have an advantage at LACs in general, and Vassar in particular.

I don’t know anything about Vassar’s programs, but as a Wes student who has taken some East Asian Studies classes and was almost a religion major: both majors are AWESOME at Wes, and, specifically, the professor focused on Buddhism, as well as the one focused on Confucianism and Neo-Confucianism are both amazing.

i’m a guy. will that help for more at vassar or wesleyan? wesleyan is even, and vassar is 60:40, but i’ve heard that vassar is apathetic to gender ratio while wes tries to keep it balanced.

I think your gender will definitely help you. They’re both reaches with your GPA, but you sound like an interesting applicant, so you never know! Apply and give it your best shot. And if you’re sure Wesleyan is where you want to go, there’s no harm in trying to switch your app to ED. Good luck!

i’d say they’re both reaches.
i know someone applying to wesleyan who has 3.78 unweighted 4.44 weighted.
and solid SATs and says it’s a reach for them.
but on the other hand there are probably sooooo many other schools that have great programs for your major and can get you in a good grad school if you work hard enough.
