Chance me for Yale S'il Vous Plait!! First-gen, all A's

I’ll chance back if you chance me!

Obviously Yale is tough to get into, but I think you have what it takes. You have solid academics (good ACT and gpa/class rank). On top of that, the ECs are pretty good. What’s great is the dedication you show to performance through ballet and theater. Not only does it differentiate you, but you show a passion for it which is always optimal. Also, you’ve done a lot of service - and not just the generic hospital volunteering. So you’re unique and passionate as Adcoms are looking for. Coupled w/ first gen and low income (you probably had to overcome some adversity), you have a great chance at Yale and any other school you apply to.

I hope you aren’t planning on studying French.

Why? I’m considering it…

If you love Yale definitely apply EA! You have STELLAR grades and great ECs and your hooks are an even bigger plus! Ivies do behave strangely though so nothing is set in stone BUT you are an outstanding applicant. I think you’re a definite match for prestigious mini ivies and 75% chance at Ivies. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Thanks for chancing me!

Thanks! I am going to apply to Yale through Questbridge which is similar to EA but will give me more of a chance to express myself I think…Plus, I’ve heard SCEA through Yale is extremely competitive and they seem to deny a lot of people!

Anything at Yale is competitive… And Questbridge is too. If you think that Questbridge will help you express yourself more then go for it, but I wouldn’t use it as a way to try to get around the system.

I think you have a good chance. You have great EC’s and being an URM and low income are benefits. If your essays are as good as you say they are, I think you have a great shot! Bonne chance!

Would you ever consider auditioning for dance at Yale (I am not sure if they have a program) for either a major or minor, and then if you did get in, change majors? Because you have a great GPA and great ACT scores so I think that it would be less competitive for a dance major.

Chance me back!!!

I am decent but probably not good enough to be a dance major. Yale actually doesn’t have a dance major. They have a small department under the theatre arts department but I’m not sure if it’s something you audition for…good suggestion though, thanks! What is your link? I will chance you back.

Thanks for chancing me back but I am not a URM. Haha

I’m not trying to use Questbridge to get around the system. It just seems like it’d be easier to show who I am with 3 essays instead of 1, like you get on the common app.

Oh, I thought I read that you were. I must have gotten mixed up. Sorry haha

Haha, its all good. I’m first-gen, maybe that’s what you were thinking.

Oh I found it. Hahah. Okay…your test scores look very good. Especially your ACTS  But…don’t take Math I SATII, most selective schools DO frown upon it… I’ve heard that to be competitive you have to get above 700 on Math II…but on Math I it has to be much higher than that. You have a better chance of doing better on Math II because the curve is easier anyway.

As for EC’s, you’ve definitely done the very best you could with what you have. Same with your classes. Schools are all about doing the most with what is offered to you and you’ve definitely done that so no, even though you haven’t saved a village in Africa, you definitely have put a lot of effort in and that will show.

Overall I think just get your SATII’s done and then you should be good to go. Wake forest should be a safety for you, same with Carleton…the others, I mean they’re all crapshoots for anyone. But you definitely have a chance at them! :)

Oh and if you’re looking for safety schools- try U Michigan or USC (University of Southern California.) They are a bit less selective and they are still really good schools :)
