My predicted IB score: 42/42 (with bonus points, 45)

GPA: 4.1 (unweighted)

Math: 800
CW: 660
total SAT reasoning: 1970

i also applied to Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, University of Chicago, University of Penn, Northwestern

please chance me!!! Please be honest!

thank you

Hey KDutch!

First, your EC's are really good. Congratulations on being so active in your community!

You wanted honesty, so I feel compelled to be honest. In the United States, if you lined up 10 people, HYPS would only pick one of them. The odds are even "worse" for an international applicant. Your SAT is really really low. Your GPA is decent, and your rank is superb. I would say raise your SAT scores by about 350 points, and you would have a decent shot. Right now, things are looking pretty slim.

In the end, do your best and apply. Best of luck to you!

Hey.. unfortunately, i cant retake my SATs
but this student who graduated from my school as well got a 2020 on their SATs and got into Yale.. (got like 720 in reading, 690 in math, 610 in writing) so do i really have a 'pretty slim' chance cause of a bad critical reading score?

On a scale of 1-10, how proficient are you in English?

well the IELTS is an english proficiency test and since i scored an 8 out of 9 id say on a scale of 1-10 im around 8.5-9

very good on the IELTS! However, because of your success on that test, your CR score should be much, much higher. That part of your app doesn't match up, which will cause some questions.

At minimum, each section of the SAT should be between 750 and 800 for a decent shot. Why are you not able to retake the SAT?

because deadline was like on the 26th of December for the Jan SAT... and even though i do retake the test, i can improve in writing and i can end up with like 800 in math and writing, but in reading, i highly doubt ill even pass like around 650, i practiced so much for critical reading but i never passed that score.. im telling u, its my weak vocabulary

With that "weak vocabulary," do you think you can write a really good essay? Because with those SAT scores, you are going to have to really shine in every aspect of your application. Your essay needs to be stellar. Do you think you can do this?

I can send you my essay if u want, I wrote the essay so I cant really judge how good it is... but if ur interested i can send it to your inbox?

i would like to read your essay. Just PM it to me

I am currently a highschool senior applying to Yale. My essays are already written though.

Considering that, if you don't want me to read your essay, that's cool. I completely understand!

yeah i agree with above that your ECs are fine

But here's my honest bit (I'm only saying this to point out any possible problems)
I'm don't think your SAT scores will pose THAT big of a problem, but they just don't seem consistent with your IB grades.

Math 1: 740, Math 2: 730, Harvard SSP: precalculus B+
and you're expected to get a 7 in math HL

CR: 510, W: 660
and you're expected to get a 7 in English A2 HL

Bio M: 580
and you're expected to get a 7 in Bio SL (this one I think is more understandable if you took the subject SAT a while ago)

Though I'm pretty sure Yale's international acceptance rate is pretty much the same as the overall rate, but if you're applying for financial aid, I think everyone other than HYP is need-aware. Maybe being a Saudi Arabian applicant is a boost?

I was told that a couple of times but i dont think that SATs should necessarily match with the IB predicted or GPA... i mean they know that english is my second language and i dont think having a weaker vocab and not being able to answer correctly for the passages in 25 minutes MEANS that it is not consistent with a two year IB English A2 HL course.. im not weak in english.. colleges do know that some of the smartest students even mess up on SATs because of their conditions... and as for math and bio SAT, it is based on the american curriculum and in high school, I only took "Math" .. i did not however take "Algebra" or "Trigonemetry" or "Geometry" classes... we were only offered Math and they taught us all the sections in this class with an average of one to two months spent on each main topic.. so i think that the subject tests are based on the american curriculum and I know that colleges know that Arabs wont do really well on them because of how it works.. i mean my friend took the Physics subject test and he got predicted a 7 in Physics HL.. he is quite a brilliant students but the subject test like focuses on certain subjects that the IB doesnt focus on.. so its very different around here.. my performance in my IB subjects cant be determined based on 25 minute standardized tests, im just saying!

and btw, in harvard summer school, i attended the seminar "How a freshman class is selected" and im sure they said that the minimum sat score is a 1750! the thing about ivy league schools is that they arent like MIT, they dont look for students with perfect SAT scores they want well-rounded scholars!!
