I'm attending a state university in Illinois (walked on to Basketball Team). I'm a freshman and finished my first semester with a 4.0 GPA. I'm taking 21 units this semester including Physics, Chem & Biology and tracking to finish with another 4.0. I am planning to discontinue pursuing basketball and now wish to attend a more academic focused University. I'm thinking Emory, Ga Tech, Rice or Univ So Cal. I'm planning a Spring semester transfer. My high school grades were subpar (2.6 gpa) as i was only interested in basketball at that time.

What are my chances of acceptance? I'm certain I will maintain the 4.0 at my current university.

You have a pretty good chance I think. I don’t know about the others, but for USC, they look at extracurricular activities, so that will definitely help you with your application. Your GPA is excellent, how in the world do you maintain a 4.0 GPA? I’m struggling to get a 3.0 right now… (Did horrible my 1st 2 semesters), but I have improved tremendously during the last 3 semesters.

Mid Term report received and I’m maintaining the 4.0 with the 21 units this semester. I’ve refined my aspirational list of colleges to Spring Semester 2014 at: Emory, Univ of Georgia, University of Miami, Univ of Michigan, Pepperdine, SMU and Cornell (really aspirational). I’d appreciate your feedback regarding my chances. Thanks.

The best people to tell you this are the admissions officers of the schools you are applying to. They have statistics on their transfer admission rates.

I will contact admissions officers…I was just hoping for some feedback from the forum as to what you think my chances are - either likely or unlikely. Thanks.
