Chance me GaTech (sophomore)

I know only being a sophomore means I still have a lot of time until college aps, but I'll be a junior soon and I'd like to make the best of the next two years. Georgia Tech is my dream school, so I'd like you guys to tell me how much of a reach it is for me, then tell me what I can do to give me the best chance possible.

Freshman year: an F in english. I made up the credit over the summer. I also got two Cs the first semester. The next semester I got 5 As and 2 Bs. I ended the year with a 3.11 cumulative GPA.

Sophomore: I took Drivers Ed over the summer, and I got 5 As and 2 Bs again the first semester. Last semester my cum GPA was a 3.46. (Remember I made up the credit for English, so that was changed to an A in my GPA calculation. That's why it skyrocketed). This semester I plan on getting 6 As and one B (AP Lang - teacher's insane). I am currently taking AP Lang, AP Environ, and AP Government. (And java programming. I'm enrolled in the computer science program at my school)

This summer I'm taking dual-enrolled statistics at the community college here, and two semesters of P.E. online (to meet graduation requirements).

My Junior year I'm taking AP Computer Science, AP Chemistry, AP Literature, Physics honors (plan on taking AP Physics B senior year), AP US History, an engineering elective, and AP Calculus AB. I plan on getting as many As as humanly possible.

Most of my classes are planned out for me at my school - we have 4-year plans. (i.e. Senior year I have to take discrete math/graphing theory)

My ECs? I'm the director of the technical drama department. This requires me to work closely with administrators and work 18+ hour days on the weekends when we have shows in the winter and fall. I have to manage a ton of crew members and make sure everything runs smoothly. But that's where my question is - that's my only EC. Is GaTech going to see my commitment and understand how I didn't exactly have time for other ECs, or am I going to be less impressive than somebody who took more ECs than me? I can write probably a good 10 pages on my leadership/commitment/technical skills I obtained through running the auditorium. And next year I plan on being in Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society).

Is a 3.6 GPA UW (what I'm probably going to have come college aps time) and all this ^ enough to make up for my lack of an abundance of ECs and poor freshman semester 1 grades?

And as far as volunteering goes: tech counts as hours, and so far I have 200 from this year. But I plan on going to some places on weekends and stuff so I can have a more varied volunteer portfolio.

Don’t commit academic suicide next year, be sure you can handle what you’re putting on yourself. 5 AP’s, an engineering elective, and Honors Physics is NOT going to be fun. It is OK to take a class you want to have fun in once in a while too like a gym class. As far as EC’s go, its generally quality > Quantity. If you are involved as you say you are with that (18+ hour days? yikes.) I think they can understand.

They’ll notice an upward trend in grades, however you’re going to want to get the UW GPA above a 3.75 to have a really good shot. Then you’ve got SAT scores to deal with and all of that. Don’t forget about your class rank too, that can be important.

It seems that you are on a upward trend, as long as you continue with that I am pretty confident you can get into GA Tech, I do have this to say; DON’T PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET! Trust me, I was hellbent on NYU until earlier this year but then I broadened my horizons and now I have a whole comparison chart on every college I’m interested in and I intend on progressively winding it down. I suggest you do the same to an extent, Good luck on all of your future endeavors!

Etuck, those classes are required to be taken for a sophomore in my program xD AP Chemistry is my only elective - and that’s what I enjoy. Plus, I’ve taken pre-IB chemistry this year and gotten almost a perfect score on both semesters. But yes, I know what you mean.
