Chance me: Georgetown 2020

I’ll use the same format as the decision threads…

[] IB (place score in parenthesis): Not offered
[
] Senior Year Course Load: AP Comp Sci, AP Macroecon, AP Microecon, AP Calc BC, AP Stat
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Not sure if this counts, but I’m a 2x recipient of an academic letter (given for straight A’s during a semester and/or a GPA over some threshold, I think 3.75, anyway I’ve done both)[/li]
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Young Democrats club (Co-founder/co-president), Speech and Debate (Captain), Student Senate (freshman class co-president), tennis (I won most improved on my team junior year), more stuff listed in the next few bullet points, HAND-PICKED BY PRINCIPAL to be on Principal’s Advisory Council - was one of five juniors (out of ~900) chosen and will be invited back senior year
[

[] Volunteer/Community service: 6 campaigns including internship (Obama, MIklosi for Congress, Romanoff for Congress, Kagan for State House [twice], Newell for State Senate), National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Excalibur
[
] Summer Activities: Congressional campaign internship (noted above) before junior year, summer precollege at Cornell before senior year (nothing before sophomore year because I moved)
[] Essays: Not done yet, but they’re coming along great.
[
] Teacher Recommendation: My teachers adore me. They’ll be phenomenal I’m sure
[] Counselor Rec: Counselor loves me. Will be fantastic
[
] Additional Rec: From my debate coach who loves me (made the decision that I’d be captain as evidence, but either way she’s seen me work incredibly hard) so I’ll be shocked if it’s not amazing.
[li] Interview: Haven’t had it yet, but I interview very well so I’m sure it’ll go great[/li]
[/ul]Other[ul]

[
] Intended Major: Political Economy (but undeclared if I chicken out)
[] State (if domestic applicant): CO
[
] Country (if international applicant): N/A
[] School Type: Huge public high school, ranked very high and very well-known
[
] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: M
[
] Income Bracket: Upper middle class I guess
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Uhh, no.[/li]
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I predict that my test scores will help. I’ve also had lots of leadership positions. One thing I wasn’t able to note here is that I’ve had a huge progression throughout my high school career; freshman GPA was 3.9 but junior year was 4.65
[
] Weaknesses: Maybe I should’ve taken more APs before senior year.

[/ul]General Comments: I feel like my application will be pretty strong but I’d love your feedback! It would be great if you could point out particular strengths and weaknesses and let me know if there’s anything I can and should do in the short time left before I apply to strengthen my application. Thank you!

You’re incredibly qualified, your academics are great all around assuming you took the most rigorous curriculum. ECs are also solid. The only thing to do now is to make sure your essays are outstanding; best of luck!

Not sure which school you’re applying to, but sounds solid. SATs good, GPA and Course Load excellent. EC’s seem ok, but I’m wondering why you’re not submitting your class rank… is it info you obtained unofficially?

You shouldn’t have a problem getting in with your numbers and extracurriculars. As long as your essays are good you should be fine.

@ComputerAge I will be applying to the College. Also I’m not submitting my class rank because my school is extremely competitive, so my rank is probably lower at my school than it would be at most, and I don’t think that it’s an accurate reflection of my capabilities as a student.

Top 5% is an excellent rank to have, in my opinion. Of course it’s your application, but I would be incredibly proud of that if I were you.

Additionally, your rank will be included on your transcript so whether or not you report it colleges will see it.

@ComputerAge I appreciate your kind comments about my class rank. I will consider it, but I’m still leaning towards not reporting it. I am fairly certain, however, that my school does not put class rank on the transcript unless the student chooses to report it. I’ll double check, though.
