What are my chances of getting into Georgetown?

Hello everyone

I am a senior getting ready to apply to college. Georgetown is my number one choice by far, and I’d like to apply to their School of Foreign Service. I’d like to see what you guys think about my chances of getting in.

My class rank is 24/457, and I have an unweighted GPA of 3.91 and a weighted GPA (out of 5.0) of 4.91. I scored a 1410 on the SAT and a 28 on the ACT. I got a 690 on the Math II subject test and I am taking two more subject tests this September.

Sophomore year I took AP Psychology. In my junior year, the APs I took were US Government (0.5 credit), Comparative Government (0.5 credit), Environmental Science, US History, and English Language. I also took Chinese 3 and am taking Chinese 4 this year. My senior year APs are Calculus AB, European History, Micro and Macro Economics (2 half credits), Literature, and I am signed up for Computer Science A but trying to switch it to Human Geography.

I was elected President of the National Honor Society (we have over 150 members), I am Co-President of the Habitat for Humanity Club, Co-President of the Chinese Club, Sergeant-at-Arms of the Economics Club, and Historian of my City Council’s youth council which consists of representatives from each school. I plan to run for Student Body President but our school hasn’t held elections yet.

I help organize fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity and organized a dodgeball tournament where we raised over $1,100. Freshman year I organized a Student vs Faculty basketball game for the World Wildlife Fund and we raised about $800. I was nominated by somebody at Habitat for an award that recognizes one young person each year for their philanthropic efforts and won.

This summer I did an internship at my US Representative’s local office and one of my Senator’s local offices. I also did this program where I worked for the Governor’s office for a week. I went on a trip to Africa where I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and did 40 hours of service there.

Freshman year I played golf and soccer, and each year after that I did track in the Spring and Cross Country in the fall. I did a lot of community service freshman and sophomore year as well.

Also, during the presidential election I started an online political apparel website and profited over $1000.

In college, I’d like to learn either Mandarin Chinese or Russian and major in International Affairs.

There might be some stuff that I left out, but I will add it to the forum if I remember.

As of now, I think my test scores are weighing down my admission chances, so I am hoping my extracurriculars, essays, and interview will allow me to compete with other applicants.

Please be honest about my admission chances to Georgetown University.

Thanks!

I have also started a political blog where young people (mostly conservatives) contribute articles and I edit and publish them. I don’t make money off of it, but I just enjoy doing it. I don’t think I will mention this on my college application though.

You are a smart enough student to understand this well. Your test scores might hold you down a little, but your EC’s are strong and should more than offset them.

I am guessing that you have a very competitive High School, because your WGPA is amazing, and a class rank of 24 means there are lots of other awesome kids you get to hang out with, and learn from in high school.

I would say you might get deferred in the early round, but you’re more likely to get accepted in the RD round.

Best of luck to you. If not G’Town, you’ll shine wherever you go.

Previous commenter is completely off, your SAT score is above the average by 90 points and your GPA is great. I would recommend applying, make sure your essays are great. Good luck!
