Chance Me - Great Extracurriculars, Questionable Grades

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a rising senior hoping to apply Early to Cornell University. It would mean a lot to me if you would chance me!

Weighted GPA: 4.18 (School is very competitive, ranked 2nd in the state for SAT scores)

Unweighted GPA: 3.44 (B-average student in all AP and Honors courses, except for one C in AP Chemistry during Junior Year... I know that this isn't the best, but I'm currently taking five APs senior year to make up for my grades. Do you think this could help if I get all As first semester senior year?)

SATs: 2310/2400; Reading: 770, Math: 750, Writing: 790 (only took once in October)

SAT IIs: Math II: 670 (retook yesterday)
Chemistry: 730 (retook yesterday)
Lit: 690 (retook yesterday)

-AP Courses for senior year: Biology, Calculus AB, American Government, English Literature & Composition, and Spanish Literature & Composition

Other than that, I take all honors. It's not that I'm a pretentious student, it's just that the environment that my school is comprised of is extremely, extremely competitive, and it's common for people to have five/six AP classes per year. The fact that I'm taking four is considered average.

I think your GPA will really hurt you. The SAT’s are great and the EC’s look good but the GPA could really be the deciding factor. I think its a reach so make sure to have all of your regular apps ready as well. Good Luck!

Now looking through your stuff again and seeing the comment about taking more AP’s this year to make up for your grades my comment is that if you apply early they won’t see your performance in them. So keep that in mind. If you think you will really knock it out of the park than it may pay to do regular but if you really love it then go for it.
Can you tell me what you think about me?

Thanks :)

I think that you have a shot – I’m not saying guaranteed. The main thing is your grades, but I’m sure your heavy course load will explain that. Also, your extracurriculars are phenomenal so if Cornell doesn’t have enough of your type of students, then it’ll fill the quota.

I would get senior year grades up before you submit your ED.
