Not a adcom by any standards but from looking at results threads, you’re chances are low. Your test scores are amazing but I don’t think they make up for the lack of courseload and ECs. 4.0 GPA is great, but you’re a really one sided applicant. You don’t show any passion outside of school and there are thousands of one sided applicants(even more so if you’re doing STEM) out there, and although your GPA and SAT scores are great, I really don’t think they will make up for the lack of everything else; however, you’re definitely a competitive applicant.
These are actually the stats of a friend of mine who graduated last year. She got into Harvard. I made this post to test the accuracy of these “Chance me” threads, and to show y’all that you don’t need “amazing” ECs to get into good schools.
Could’ve waited for most posts… would’ve been interesting. Also, that explains the lack of everything, you probably have no idea what she put on her application or what she wrote her essay about nor the hours involved with them… Even if you’re bestfriends therher is a low chance you knew everything she was doing, and (as I assume you know) people get lucky(not exactly luck when you have those stats, but by admissions for H it seems to be) every year. in fact, 25% of H students have less than a 31/2100 on the ACT so obviously people are getting in with low scores as well as high scores…
@MandarinSin I know her really well, those are all her ECs. And my school doesn’t count hours, but you can imagine how much time she spends with 3 sports, yearbook, running a club and maintaining good grades, right? Yes, she may have written a very good essay, but nobody posts them on “Chance me” threads.
lol i should make another thread about my friend who got into princeton
@ssgxml‌ , when you put things like volunteering on an app you better dang well put how many hours. If you just say “spent time helping at ____” and dont put an amount of hours then it’s somewhat useless. There’s a major difference between working at a library twice and working at it twice a week for eight years. She obviously put hours if she put any volunteering at all.
Sports, if she was a recruited athlete(or they wanted her to walk-on) she had a huge hook(the average everything for atheletes is way lower). If she wanted to go in to something like CS/Sausage fest majors, she had a huge hook. There are tons of things you left out even for a normal chance thread much less for an actual college application. Volunteering at all? Awards? Jobs? Cultural trips? Recommendations? Essays?
And about accuracy, of course these aren’t accurate. They are for high school students and parents to consult each other about what to work on/what schools they have a reasonable shot at, not for adcoms to mail rejection letters because of 'em.
I guess you could make one for your friend at Princeton? So could 3/4 of the people on here… No reasonable person would say “yea, 97% chance at HYP, bro” because that’s not reasonable; however, that doesn’t mean they won’t get in. Also, remember that when you apply to all of the 40 schools(like some of these people do) and have reasonable stats you’re bound to be accepted by one and whichever one you get accepted by people will be impressed by. Heck, my stats are terrible and I bet if I applied to every top 20 university, I’d be accepted to one or two.
