Chance me Harvard

hi i am high school junior right now, have a 2.7 unweighted gpa but a 3.3 weighted. I read the harverd website they said they accept gpa above 3, i know that i probably should have got better grades but i have explanation: in ninth grade i got four d’s because my grandma passed away, she was the closest family memeber ever. my sat is not so good either around 1050 but if i write the best essay in the world about how my grandma impact my life also i am mixed (half white half black) so i can apply for black and i know harverd loves blacks. they accept blacks like candy. what are my chances? can some one repond please.

You need to look for universities that are a good fit for you. Harvard is not it. You need to look somewhere else.

Also, you will need to put in a significantly stronger effort if you do attend any university or any college.

theres no need to be so mean about it. i have always wanted to go to harvard ever since i was little,
i wrote my essay about how my grandma impacted my life and how i was crushed when she died, i could barely breathe and focus got d’s and f’s, etc.
also i am “underpressented minority” and my counselor guidance said that they love that. i have always wanted to go to harvard

Yep, you’re a shoo-in…

I am sorry for your loss. I do not think Harvard is a reasonable reach for you.

Work with your counselor to create a list with a few reaches, 5-7 targets and a couple of affordable safety schools. Do you know what your family can/will pay for college? If not, have that conversation with your parents sooner rather than later.

Your GC should be the one addressing the drop in your grades in their rec letter…not you in your essay. You do not want the AOs to read your essay and feel sorry for you, it is a fine line to walk. Lastly, the focus of your essay should be about you and not your grandma.

thats what i thought, i know harverd loves underpresented minorities, also my grades and sat score can be explained by my tragedy, thanks for replying, i appreciate someone finally, actually thinking i have a chance,

no but because i am underpressentted minority i think harvard can look at my sat and gpa but the essay probably will make up for it, i know crazy stories for instance you can have very low gpa and sat but as long as you have compelling story it is fine. i know harvard is elite but i know they do affirmative action also my grades drop due to COVID, should i mention that too? i apply for financial aid, our family makes good money, but still want a chance

You won’t be guaranteed admission to Harvard just because you’re black. Yes, Harvard does use affirmative action but many of the underrepresented minorities are also very hardworking, top GPA’s and SAT’s. With your GPA and SAT, I hate to break it to you, but the chances of you getting admitted into Harvard are slim to none.

No reason to keep this thread open. I’m not saying it’s a troII, but the OP has multiple accounts which violate ToS.
