Also what other schools should I apply to? And how can I improve my stats? I am planning to get a 4.67 again this semester, with a B in government.

You’ve listed 20 schools (counting the UCs as 1), are you actually going to apply to that many, and are you really looking for more?

Doesn’t seem like much you can do at this late date beside keeping your grades up. No need for retesting with a 34. I’m assuming you’re sending just the ACT to all schools that accept it.

Not a great place for Chances, but if you haven’t already seen it, check out the Hispanic Students forum (under Specialty Topics) for lots of good information on how college admissions works for Hispanic students, scholarships, fly-ins, etc.

I haven’t applied anywhere yet, and want to know which schools I should apply to/if there are any good ones I haven’t listed thought of that I should consider. I’m probably going to apply to 7 or 8, this is just a list of potential schools.

And yeah, I guess I can’t really change anything, but I will definitely check out the hispanic students forum

also, should I only submit my ACT or should I submit both? Is there a disadvantage to sending the SAT?

BUMP. What are my chances at such universities?

Glad to hear that! We do get students here thinking a shotgun approach works for selective colleges, but the loss in being able to send top notch applications hardly makes up for the marginal, if any, increase in acceptance.

The only ones that come to mind are some of the other techy schools like Mudd, RPI, etc. That’s just based on your academic interest in CS though, it also depends on other factors you’re considering: size, location, core vs. open curriculum, general vibe of the school, etc.

Is MOSTEC competitive like Mites? If so, it could help w/MIT.

A 34 is equivalent to about a 2265:

http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/

I’d recommend ACT over SAT, because of the difference in total score and the relatively low SAT CR. For those schools permitting it, you could use Score Choice to also send your Subject tests (you can’t do this for Y, I’m not sure about the other schools).

Isn’t MOSTEC an online forum, sort of like a social networking thing, for students not accepted to MITES? That’s what I was told when I was there.

It is an online forum combined with a week long engineering conference at MIT. How the MITES acceptance thing worked was that the Adcoms accepted 200 applicants, and gave those 200 to the OEOP (office of engineering outreach programs). They than selected 60-80 for MITES and 60-80 for MOSTEC. That’s what I’ve been told at least. and yes, it was for people who didn’t get into MITES

When did your MOSTEC conference at MIT happen? I went to E2@MIT, ours was right after MITES

Oh nice, I never heard about E2 until a few weeks ago, I guess I never got the memo  That would have been cool too. The MOSTEC conference happened last week, which was super cool. Although, I’m sure MITES would have been a lot better

80 kids were accepted to MITES, 60 to E2@MIT, then you guys for MOSTEC.

Our program was MITES crammed into 1 week.

(sorry to derail)

Yeah, that matches up with the info I was given. The adcoms accepted 200, mostec had about 60, and then 80 for mites and 60 for e2, would equal that 200 that were accepted for OEOP programs. makes sense.
to get back on track: Do you think we have a good chance? And do other universities recognize the rigor of these programs?

BUMP. What are my chances at such universities? PLEASE

I think you have a good chance at a lot of good schools. But they definitely will not know what MOSTEC is. Did you receive evaluations? We did, and I sent that as a supplemental LOR.

BUMP for more chances. Thanks for everyone so far, can I have more feedback though!?
