Class rank: 73 of 731 (Top 10%)
Unweighted GPA: 3.658
Weighted GPA: 3.958
AP courses: AP Literature and Composition, AP Psychology (taking these senior year so they haven't had an effect on my weighted GPA yet)
SAT scores: 1840 (reading: 670, math: 520, writing: 650)

Extracurriculars
Started the Creative Writing Club at my school freshman year
Photography club member/Animal Lover's Club member
Was a reporter for my newspaper freshman year, Entertainment Editor/Managing Editor sophomore year, and Editor-in-Chief for junior and senior year. (I also went to the JEA/NSPA conventions along with Journalism conventions in my town sophomore, junior, and senior year.) I clock almost 19 hours a week doing journalism or journalism related things!
Wrote for my school literary magazine for all four years of high school, contributing a story almost every issue.
I started my own online business during the summer of sophomore year and it has actually become pretty successful, takes the place of a full time job
I also am the manager of the girls varsity basketball team
I volunteer for the charity Random Acts and also for my local animal shelter all the time, too.

Awards
American Heart Association essay contest winner (It was a county-wide thing, I represented my grade for all of my city)
President's Education Awards Program Outstanding Academic Achievement Award (It's like this principal award thing)
I also have over 19 journalism-related awards both from the prestigious state-wide competition that is put on by the biggest paper in my state and also awards from a journalism society from my county. Like 99.9% of my life is journalism related

My uncle went to Boston University and is a VERY distinguished alumni, he also wrote me a rec letter in the "other/family section" and I have 2 other VERY strong letters from the English dept. at my school

You sound like you are a very talented writer- I think your SAT scores should be reflective of that talent. If you can, I would encourage you to aim for a writing and reading score in over 700. As for your math, I would also encourage you to get it about 600 (it’s important that your scores are fairly consistent with each other). If you can do that, your application will be stellar! Everything else looks great!

Your strong ECs will definitely help make you a unique competitive applicant! Leading a club shows initiative and, of course, leadership, but creating a club shows creativity, sometimes passion and a greater sense of leadership. Not only do you lead the club with day-to-day organization, but you also founded the idea and gathered other classmates to join in – they will like that! Your GPA is high, but your SAT is a little on the low end. These are the results that make it:

Test Scores – 25th / 75th Percentile
SAT Critical Reading: 570 / 670
SAT Math: 610 / 720
SAT Writing: 600 / 690

Your CR section is good compared to their results, but math section is a little below the bottom 25th percentile. Hopefully with your other scores and ECs you will make up for that. I’m sure you will make it! The acceptance rate is 46%, 60% of them being female, so I believe you have a really good chance.

How is that GPA high? OP’s weighted GPA did not even break 4.0. Also, I know students attending BU with much more impressive extracurriculars/awards.
