Chance me? I'll give you a cookie!

So, like many other CCers on here, I'm going to be a senior this fall and I'm freaking out about college. I'm also uber stressed, with summer homework, college applications, summer ECS and whatnot. If you guys could chance me, I'd really, deeply appreciate it.

My GPA is pretty crappy; I messed up badly freshman year and its haunted me since. I would prefer not post it here to save myself from humiliation (its higher than a 3.0 UW tho)

ACT: 28, I plan to retake 2 more times, hoping for a 30!

By the end of next year I'll have taken 8 or 9 AP's (still deciding if I'm taking 4 or 5 next year)

I've taken honors/AP courses at my competitive public high school. Almost every year the top 3 or 4 students go to ivy's/NU/UChicago etc.

EC's:

I started my school's STAND Student Anti-Genocide Chapter
Science Fair
F.R.E.E. (Fighting for Relationship Equality through Education) Co-President
Key Club Member
Student Council Division Representative
UChicago Hospitals Volunteer
Internship with a top cosmetic surgeon
150+ service hours

I really think that my essay will end up being pretty awesome; I've been told before that I am a pretty good writer. Also, I plan on using the QuestBridge Application, which has a bunch of additional essays to portray my personality better. I don't think I'd ever be awarded the QB scholarship, but, to the best of my knowledge, I can select for my application to be forwarded to schools (is that right?)

I will definitely interview at UChicago (on campus; I live in Chicago). I have an awesome personality, and although I know that personality alone cannot help me gain admission, it is one of my best assets.

Also, I'm a URM (hispanic) first-generation hs graduate.

The schools I'm looking at are:

UChicago (#1 Choice)
Stanford
Duke
Dartmouth
Brown
Northwestern
UW-Madison
Boston College
University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign
Loyola Chicago
Pomona
Carleton
UMich- Ann Arbor
University of Illinois- Chicago

I know its a long list, so you don't have to chance me through the WHOLE thing if you don't want =P

Also, I'm a Posse Scholarship nominee, which would give me a full ride to one of its partner schools. The ones in my list that are Posse schools are Carleton, Pomona, Urbana-Champaign, and UW-Madison.

Also, (jeez, I'm asking for so much, sorry!) can you guys recommend which schools on my list might be safeties/matches?

Thanks =]

Most of the colleges on that list will be reaches. You need to raise your ACT and tell us your GPA. Otherwise, it's pretty vague where you stand right now. You're EC's are good/decent but are rather lackluster compared to other students who apply to those schools.

Thanks, shavingcream66. I definitely plan on raising my ACT score (I've been hitting those study books pretty hard this summer!). Also, I know that a LOT of schools on that list are definitely reaches. To tell you the truth, when I think more realistically about things, I don't even know why I'm going to try at schools like Stanford. I just don't want to have that "what if?"

My UW GPA is ~3.3.

Bump! 10 char

Common you guys! Please?

Hi,
Ok so your gpa is not super high...but it is not that horrible. 3.3 is not the end of the world. Your EC's are great. Sounds like you are a really strong writer, so give it your all with the essays. Show your true unique self, get their attention!
Re-take the ACT (I am also).
Ok, that said, your list..

UChicago (#1 Choice) --definitely think you would get in with your EC their
Stanford-- Big Reach
Duke--Reach
Dartmouth--Big Reach
Brown--Big Reach

(the following I think are matches)
Northwestern
UW-Madison
Boston College
University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign
Loyola Chicago
Pomona
Carleton
UMich- Ann Arbor
University of Illinois- Chicago

Good Luck! Dream Big!!!

p.s. dont live with regrets...apply to any school you really want to go to, you dont want to ever wonder "what if?"

chance me back, Thanks!

bump! 10char

almost all of these are high-ish reaches. out of chicago, stanford, duke, dartmouth, brown and NW, i would choose your favorite three and toss the rest...so, probably it will be brown vs dartmouth, chicago vs NW, stanford vs duke. the others are high matches for the most part. your minority status will help, but please do not count on it to carry you. try BU, suny binghampton, umd college park, delaware, IU, syracuse, or ucsd. you might be more competitive at these places, and they have a lot in common with the schools already on your list.

Thanks, rlm89! Anyone else?

I know that a lot of the schools on my list are EXTREMELY high reaches, but what the hey?! Lol. College admissions are so weird, and I know that there are some people out there that might deserve these schools more than me (at least, thats what their stats reflect,) but I know I am as smart and motivated as them.
