<p>I've been lurking around CC for some time now and thought that it'd be a good idea to put up a chance thread.</p>

<p>I was named one of 25 leading African-American students under 25--by a popular magazine--for my humanitarian work and research.</p>

<p>Other Stuff:
Recs: I chose two teachers who really like me. One of them actually requested to write my rec. I'm also getting a rec from the director of the biotech institute that funded all of my research.
Essays: I'll probably write about my research and unique cultural background</p>

<p>I think you have a really good shot everybody, your stats are great, your ECs are strong. The only flaws I see are that your weighted GPA is low (it may just be that your school weights weirdly) and your community service (though to be honest your other ECs make up for not a ton of community service)… Harvard, Yale and MiT are all hard to predict, but you are a very strong applicant.</p>

<p>Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell are fair reaches though you’ll probably get into one.
Stanford is far reach
MIT will be easier than Ivies if you have better chem scores and excellent math II scores.</p>

<p>WhiteCaptain- I’ve done research for almost 3yrs now (300+ hrs in the lab). My nonprofit provides merit scholarships for students in an African village. My Culture club started a pen pal program with at-risk middle schoolers in our community. Isn’t that enough passion? </p>

<p>As I said, I really don’t want to disclose all of my info on the interweb.</p>

<p>You will get in anywhere you want, provided your essays don’t suck. I see lots of passion in those EC’s, WhiteCaptian. A 2 year research project is a huge commitment, and it was obviously successful.</p>

<p>Also, I feel horrible about intel and siemens now, since I only have 2.5-ish months of work to use. All hope is lost.</p>

<p>You will get into all or most of those schools. Your background and research will get you in more than anything else, provided that you write a solid essay. You could even get scholarships to some.</p>
