it sucks to see 3 and a half years of extremely hard work just laid out in front of me on one little post

please chance me, regular decision

You have a chance.

that doesn't sound encouraging

I think you have an excellent chance. Your test scores are above average, your class rank is good, those AP scores are impressive, you have work experience, and you're active in your school and community. I'd say that you'd even have a good shot at one of Vandy's merit scholarships. Good luck!

I go to Vanderbilt but nevertheless I am just trying to tell you that it is pointless to try to find out your chances if you aren't asking admissions directly. I ended up getting into much higher ranked schools and waitlisted and rejected at some schools I had considered safeties. Don't set your heart on anything yet because nothing is certain. Things change year to year and everything is relative, Vandy especially. Every year the credentials are getting better and better and scores and GPAs are on the rise. I think you are an excellent candidate but take these chances threads with a grain of salt. You will get in a good school with your ethic and credentials.

^I know what you mean, but I don't see what's wrong with encouraging potential applicants a little. Yes, chances threads are oftentimes useless, but sometimes, having other people encourage you to apply when you wouldn't otherwise do so can bring them good news come April, like an acceptance at a reach school, for example. I think the OP is an excellent candidate, and that's all that I meant by it. I didn't say that he was definitely going to get in; no one on this forum can give anyone an accurate chances prediction. Whenever I reply to a chances thread, I usually try to make my answer give off the "likely" or the "unlikely" vibe to the OP, not the "definite" or the "impossible" vibe.

I wasn't trying to sound self-righteous or give the OP no hope. I think he has a great chance and is a stronger applicant than I was. I'm just saying past year's applicants should not be a indicator of what kind of scores you need, gpa, etc. The college process is so subjective and I relied on averages and such when I was an applicant and I'm suggesting that the OP not get caught up on what others have done.

OK, sorry, but I do agree with you that the college admissions process is subjective (at least for the universities that I'm applying to). I'm applying to Rice University ED, and although my stats are above average, I'm still worried that I won't get in. Oh well, I'll know by this Saturday! If not, I'll be hoping that the other schools on my list (Vandy included) will take me RD.

let me know how your rice things go- i applied ed too

ED will be a huge relief. I applied ED elsewhere and I got deferred even though my stats and such were above the average. Good luck.

no- i applied ed to rice
