So I slacked off in High School mainly due to a lack of motivation. I think I barely graduated and left the place with something like a 2.5 GPA. To make matters worse, when I took the ACT, I didn't even try and scored something like a 21. I know it's pretty horrible but I think I was just very immature at that point in my life.

Fortunately for me, things have improved immensely since then.

After I graduated HS, I worked for a couple non profits in DC and a presidential campaign. I also ran for local office and have been involved in community service efforts with the local literary society and Meals on Wheels. Plus, I'm involved with the Honors society at my community college. I would say that I have pretty solid ECs and volunteer activities.

Obviously because of my poor HS performance I was forced to attend a local community college here in MI. So I have taken over 60 credits that are transferable (according to the UM LSA guide) and have either a 3.88 or 3.9 (I will know for sure when I get my final grades back this semester).

I also have a couple great letters of recommendation from professors at the community college.

What are my chances of being accepted to UM LSA? Will my horrible HS record hold me back or have I proven myself enough at the community college?

I am so glad that you turned your life around after high school, and it’s wonderful that you have the great GPA, ECs, and recs! But I am not aure if UMich will hold your HS record against you.

The fact that you improved drastically shows that you are now dedicated and ambitious to succeed; I applaud you for this! If they look at how well you have perfomred lately, then I like your chances; but if they take HS into strong consideration, I’m sorry but it most likely won’t work out. Best of luck to you!!! :)

If it makes a difference, my essay is awesome (IMO). It does a pretty good job of explaining how I turned my life around and where I want to go from here…

I think that if they focus on what happened after HS, then you have a good shot at getting in. I really hope that you get, you have worked very hard!!! ;)
