Hello! So, I am planning early for college! So here are my stats. I am interested in Mechanical Engineering at MIT, GT, and VT with a minor in biomedical engineering. Essentially in charge of conditioning of our Cross Country team. (I used compete, but I had a really bad injury freshman year, which makes it so that I can't really run. I still loved the sport, though.)
Internships with Different doctors

My extended essay is on the modern methods of treating Cancer.

I really love the medical field, and really want to do Biomedical Engineering at JHU or a minor in it at MIT. Please Chance me.

Thank you so much!

My extended essay WILL be on the modern methods of curing cancer. My baddd

Hey Jain,

First off, like you stated, your SAT score is very low, but since the deadline for most colleges is only a couple weeks away, may I ask when you’re taking the SAT?(Jan.22)

Also, I’m not sure how much of an improvement from 1980 you can make. Even with rigorous study, I don’t think you’ll be able to raise it more than 200-250 points… Trust me, my first time taking the SAT, I got a 2170, a year later, after about 500-600 hours of cumulative review and over 40 practice tests, I got a 2330, was disappointed, but oh well.

Oh the other note, your classes look very rigorous, which colleges want to see, but can we have your GPA?

Also, you’re involved in a lot of EC’s and clubs, and ironically, colleges don’t like to see that. They want to see passion in what you’re pursuing, not just joining clubs just so you can put down a double digit number. That said, I think you should drop some of your clubs and pursue the ones where you think you’re going to be a president/captain, or the clubs which pertains to your major.

You’re writing an essay on the modern methods of treating cancer, and I find that very hard to do. The essays are supposed to give colleges a personal look at you and your personality and aspirations. Even though the cancer paper would sound very advanced, it wouldn’t give colleges a unique look at who you are and what you are like, it would sound too much like a science report.

Umm… I’m still wondering whether you’re a junior or a senior…

Best of Luck in your applications,

Piano.

P.S. ASIANS FTW!!!
P.S.S. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING FTW!!!
P.S.S.S. Can you chance me as well? thread in same forum.

Well, I’m actually a sophmore lol but I contacted a local college and my counselor, and this is the course progression they set up.
Err, my UW is probably a 3.9 or 3.9? I have one B, but I will probably pull that up, so It’ll be a 4.0. Top 10%. Weighted is probably a 4.8-ish?

Oh yeah, and give me the link! I have no clue how this web site works haha

Your in, no problem, at VT :)

That is, if your in-state.

Yep, I’m in state!
Only VT though? That’s the safety school for most kids at my school :/

Also, I love all of my EC’s, as I get bored when I have nothing to do lol. All of them are sort of centered around a particular sector of knowledge. Debate and Model UN are interrelated. Key Club and Beta Club are interrelated. All of my medical stuff is interrelated. And all the honor societies are interrelated. What do you suggest I drop? I’m not really sure :/

jain,

I’m not sure how to recommend which clubs for you to drop as I’m not very familiar with your clubs.

It’s good that you’re a sophomore and thinking about college, “getting on top of things” (something that i never really mastered lol).

I believe that if you keep your grades up and get around 2200-2250 on your SAT, you’re “academically qualified” for the top colleges in the U.S. However, do keep in mind that at the elite colleges like MIT,(and hopkins to a degree), there will be many many people with the same stats and grades as you. So during your two years until apps, do something which sets you apart from others and shows that you have a true passion for what you do, whether its starting a new “biomed” club or something or interning at a local college.

Also, establish very good relationships with your teachers (especially math and science) for later recommendations, don’t be afraid to stay after class sometimes and help them clean up the room, teachers appreciate this very much =D.

Good luck fellow asian, and hopefully I’ll meet you in college (I’m applying to MIT too!)

are you applying to any UC’s Jainap?
