Chance me-- Michigan state

I am currently a junior in high school, and I am in-state. I attend a school that’s been nationally recognized by many college magazines and such, so I think it is safe to say that it’s top 10% in the country (at least that what’s our school says it is…).

In my freshmen year, I didn’t do so bad, nor did I excel in any field in particular. Here are my first semester grades:
Spanish II = B
English 9 = A
Honors Geometry = C
Physical Education (this was actually like a normal class because we had written tests and assignments, it wasn’t just running in the gym or anything) = A
Economics = A
Biology = A
AVID (A college-prep class) = A

Second Semester grades:
Spanish II= B
English 9: A
Honors Geometry = C
Entrepreneurship = A
Civics = A
Biology = A
AVID = A

As you can tell, my math grades were poor for both the first and second semester. I have never been good with math, and the same thing applied to geometry. I tried very hard, just couldn’t get a grasp on it.

Now, sophomore year, mainly my first semester, I had some very bad personal issues come into effect… Not going to go into detail, but this will be my hook for my essay, and I’m confident it’s a good one.

First semester (sophomore year)
Food prep = A
Honors American Literature = B
American History (AP) = A
AVID = A
Honors Chemistry = C
Honors Algebra II = D
Spanish III = D

Semester 2:
Human Health and study of the organs = A
Honors American Lit = B
American History = A
Honors Algebra II = A
Spanish III = B
AVID = A
Honors Chem = B

I showed major improvement, really know doubt about it. As a junior now, here are my grades (so far):

Semester one:
AP US Government and Politics: A
AP World History: A
Honors World Literature: A
Intermediate programming (tested out of basic programming) : A
Pre Calc: B
Physics: B
Accounting/market business: A

I am very confident that these grades will stick until the end of the semester, which is in a month. For senior year, I project taking the following classes, at least for the first semester… Haven’t decided on second semester yet.

AP Computer science
AP English Literature
AP Environmental Science
AP Statistics
Global Studies of Gender
Points Of View (English Class)

Ok, so here are my extracurriculars:

Baseball: Freshmen and Junior Varsity (tried out for varsity, didn’t get in). I also play an intramural league in the summer

Track and Field: Varsity

Law club: Executive board member, serve as an attorney at a thing called “teen court”, which is a REAL court for teenagers convicted of a felony. I’d do some research on it because it’s pretty cool!

Spanish culture club: Member

Followers of Christ Club: Member

Volunteer: I have over 100 hours and counting at a food bank which serves homeless citizens of downtown Detroit. Doing this has taught me a lot about people, and most importantly, life.

I also assist in teaching First Holy Communion Class at my church. I’ve been doing this for about five years.

Test scores:

ACT: 30. Got this on my first attempt. Going for a 32+.
SAT: 2010. Not going to retake this unless I really feel the urge to. I’m happy with this score

Thank you in advance!

You’re in no, worries. You’re ACT is very good for MSU, above average!!
I have seen people with much lower numbers than you get in.
You NEED to get your application in as soon as admissions open (within first few days) to better your chances.
They have rolling admissions so if you’re serious that it’s your #1, you’re going to want to have it in immediately.
With the rolling admissions, you should get their decision (which I believe will be an acceptance) much earlier than other schools if you get your app in right away.
Good luck!! MSU is awesome! :slight_smile:

@c011e9e Thank you so much! I guess I don’t have to be worried about the D’s I got, because you’re right about my ACT score. I’ll be sure to get my application in on time. Thank you!!!

Anyone else want to give me their thoughts :slight_smile:
