I'm a white, male senior at Holly Springs High School (challenging?) in Wake County (Instate, challenging?).

NCSU is my absolute top school, I absolutely want to go there.

Applied for Engineering (Computer Engineering Intent) and First Year College as my secondary.

GPA - 4.15 Weighted, 3.5 Unweighted

Top 21% of Class

SAT - 1980 (superscore)

ACT - 30

I've already filed all applications for Early Action, and expect decision on the 15th, but I'd like an earlier opinion if at all possible.

I filled out all the optional forms as well, noting my difficulty socializing (basically couldn't for every year but the last two) and overcoming a minor form of autism (diagnosed).

I've also visited every event at NCSU I've become aware of, making sure to sign up for and attend all events that can be RSVP'd through WolfPaw.

Some extracurriculars and AP/Honors classes would have been a plus for you. If you don’t get into Engineering, I’m sure you can get into First Year

As well, I’ve taken 9 Honors classes, out of the 24 classes I’ve taken as far.
So, plus the 6 AP’s, that’ll be 15 out of 32 classes, nearly half my classes being nonstandard.

Any other opinions anyone would like to add? I’m deeply concerned because my SAT and ACT are in the upper range for the Mid-50 at NCSU, but my GPA, weighted and unweighted, are both just under the bottom end of the Mid-50. Will these two balance out into good news on the 15th?

At least for the Park Scholarship, I’m automatically enrolled simply by applying Early Action, if I remember their policy correctly. I doubt I’ll come close to getting it, I’m under the impression that my stats are rather low for NCSU, or at least for their Engineering Department.

I’m not good at chancing, but I know for our son, he had to get his school’s endorsement for the Park. In the alternative, a student can self-endorse, but it’s a whole separate application process (including additional essays and recommendations) and it was all due Nov. 1.

It is not a reach at all. Given consideration to what they look for and looking at my sons research, I’m saying your a lock. To that end you may also be a “lock” for engineering.

FYI: The Park Scholarship had a separate application. While they did transfer most of your application information to the Park app, there was additional info my daughter had to enter as well as recommendation letters needed.

From what I have heard, if you apply by the early action deadline you are automatically considered for some merit scholarships. Exceptions are Park ( which requires a separate application) and possibly some departmental scholarships in certain areas (look at the websites).
None of us have crystal balls to predict acceptance:) You look like a strong candidate. I’ve heard the engineering students have high math scores so I think it would help if yours are high.

Park email received yesterday…it was not the good news we were hoping for. My daughter is crushed. I am too. I understand it was the largest and most competitive Park Application pool they have ever had. Now to find another way to fund her dream school…
